The infraction point do expire, don't they? I already have 4 point - one came because I opened a thread that already has been started one year ago

Not sure how long it takes, maybe a month or so, but I've had infractions expire. Most of us probably don't post often enough to make enough unwitting mistakes to get banned. The very heavy posters like the one mentioned probably have a higher chance of getting banned this way, just because of the greater opertunities to make a mistake and get enough infractions.

    Hi,

I have just been contacted by gwest and he says that he got banned because of infractions. I doesn't know why he received them, but it may have been from posting in the wrong thread or something and that his ban is for 7 days so he will be back next week.

If anyone has got sig links or avatars or anything else with him then he said he will compensate when he's back with allowing us the extra 7 days for our stuff.

I must admit, I started a thread in the Google forum and I got an infraction for that. The thread was mainly about google, but because I mentioned my site's url once in it so that someone could work out my ranking I had the infraction. The thread was moved to the website reviews SEO section. I had not even known that forum even existed on here at that time, but do now.

I would be interested in knowing what caused him to get banned? This could help others not make the same mistake. It would be sad to see good people on the forum leave :(

go to your control panel, look below the subscribed threads and you should have reputation and below that will be your infractions.

No section header? Then you've been a very good dp member ;)

Well - getting banned now doesnt mean getting banned forever : ) I would suggest you wait a couple of days and see what happens. In the meantime, you should contact an Administrator and let him know about this issue.

When you purchase a sig link you're paying for it to be displayed in all current posts. Unless you have an agreement, in writing, stating that he has to keep posting or at a certain rate, you shouldn't get a cent back. Your link would still be active in all of those 5000+ previous posts, so you got what you paid for. That's just life and a learning experience.

It's only a system ban. Does not necessarily count for negative reputation. Considering the great number of posts I'd say the guy has been around for quite some time for others to see what kind of person he is.

As for the sig/avatar deals here on DP, I would not jump to disputes and chargebacks before having a chance to talk to the member first. That's what I believe would be fair.

So your saying that if I paid $40 to put a sig on a members account that has 5000+ posts and then his account gets deleted a few minutes later, then I have got what I paid for. You are definately wrong here. The contract is for a month worth of links. The links has to be on his sig for a month.

When someone gets banned, he can no longer post, his avatar and sig goes from all his old posts so you link can't be seen by anyone. The only thing that stays is his posts without the sig and avatar.

I don't think are quite sure what happens on here when an account gets banned. The memebers avator and sig goes completely of every post. That's why this thread has been written.

Anyway, he says he will compensate so that's the end of that really. He seems a good member, and got banned mistakenly.

I don't think anyone gets banned "mistakenly" but the point is that when he comes back, so will his sig and avitar and it will show on all the previous posts again.... I think sarah said he'd be back in less than 2 weeks so it's not really that bad.

I know he's a good member, but a ban isn't done "mistakenly." I didn't realize the sigs went away on a ban. If he's willing to compensate, then that's great. But in the future, you need to account for things like this in writing before making any purchase, b/c technically it's still "in" his sig, and it's just that the admins aren't allowing it to be displayed. The original post made it sound like the problem was that he wouldn't be able to post in the future for a while, which simply isn't a legitimate reason to get money back on this kind of sale.

When I said mistakenly, I mean that he done some mistakes while posting and accidently run up his infractions. He will be unbanned in 7 - 8 days.

As in my previous post or 2 I have said that I have had contact from him and he says he will compenstate us all. His infractions just got him banned and he also mentions that he was shocked to notice that he couldn't login and noticed he had been banned. But he should be back within 7 - 8 days now.

When you buy a sig link, you are not just buying it for the 200 odd posts that get made that month. You are also getting all of the archived links - eg 5000+ that he has already posted - that's what makes them valuable.

OP seems to be concerned about his avatar purchase wasted as you know banned members have their avatars and signatures hidden until they are back. I guess it's only a matter of time, once member X gets unbanned, I see it a fair deal if you were offered a deal time extension, I'm almost sure that's what will happen.
