I keep hearing about Digg, I have seen the website, however I do not know how to use it.

Please could someone tell me how it works and how affective is it for traffic?

    Thanks a lot!

I got on the front page last friday and it sent 32,000 uniques in 24 hours. You need to use digg as a user for a few months before you will be able to get any traffic submitting your stories.

You submit a story or website and try to get other people to digg it. The more diggs you get, the better rank your story will get. If you make front page, you can get unbelievable traffic.

The best advice I can give is that you should really work on building up a profile. Because the chances of a story hitting the front page are greatly increased if it is submitted by a strong profile.

To build up your profile you should spend time looking for great stories on the web that the digg community will love. Not just your own stories. Then submit those and work at getting them to the popular section. The more you do this, the more exposure your profile will get and the more friends you will attract.

Once you have a lot of friends and have built up that profile, then you will have a much better chance of submitting an article of your own and getting it to go popular.

It really drives a lot of traffic. I had three articles in one week go to the front page, shut down my site all three times. (Upgraded server since then)

And YoungMaster is right, you either need to be a very active digger and digg good articles, join a digg ring that may be a very bad idea, or get lucky.

I don't really try to show many ads to people from digg. They don't click on them anyway.

This is the first time I have shown any ads and so far its showing about 700 clicks for the day (they are Auction Ads so the earnings won't show for days/weeks).

The funny thing is the site I linked to has been down all day due to the traffic I am sending but my site is running fine.:)

    The article was digg.com/gadgets/Why_the_Linux_based_Deeda_Pi_phone_is_a_real_iPhone_killer

Digg is good for both articles and your own website.

SearchWarp (an article directory) uses Digg among other resources to promote the articles submitted to them.

Congratulations Mad4. It would be great if you would be willing to post how many links the article gets as the result of being dugg. An article that hits the front page like that usually gets a lot of exposure and hence a lot of links. Maybe a follow up post in a couple of weeks?

And for anyone interested in knowing what kind of articles the digg community really loves, this is a perfect example. They love anything about the iphone and they are super into Linux.

Join as a member and see what hits the front page for a month.

I bet you £100 there has never been an article directory hit the digg front page.
