I have made a new forum, and I don't know how to go about bringing in new, active members. I would also like to know the best paying affiliate programs for forums.

Help is very much appreciated :)

you can pay one of those forum posting companies to post messages and get your forum active.. put signatures on all the forums you are member of.. write a nice article, submit it to digg, stumbleupon, etc. and then link to your forums

would you pay something like $1.50/sign up? if so join something like paydotcom.com (they let you list 1 free affiliate program for free) because CJ is too expensive at first.

Also: try competitions.... based on post count, you can give simple prizes as simple as free advertising space for __ amount of time

really depends i guess, how much do you think i could expect to make from ads and vip signups from each member?

and what is CJ lol, not to sound like a noob.

what competitions do you recommend? i don't want to spend too much money on rewards nor do i want to have to go to the trouble of getting a lot of sponsors.

CJ = commission junction, they are one of the largest if not the largest affiliate network company in the world.

the way you look at it is this way.. how much is ONE person worth to you. do you think you can make that $1.50 back within 3 years from that one person?

news corp. paid myspace $650m when it had around 65-70m members... news corp believed that each member is worth about $10 in revenue...

it realy depends on how you monetize your site, your budget, etc.

You should not worry on how to make money from a starter forum. Put some content, find traffic, and then you should start worry about that :)

Forums are very hard to get monetized, and if you get less than 500 uniques per day is totally useless to try to monetize one.
