    hi all -

I'm a newbie so if this is the wrong forum, please forgive

I'm interested in knowing what shopping carts are used on these sites?

    1. http://www.a1books.com/
    or
    http://www.a1books.com/cgi-bin/mktSe...N_ID=755094483

    2. http://www.valorebooks.com/

    3. http://www.textbookx.com/exchange_de...=9780471056690

    4. http://www.bookbyte.com/product.aspx?isbn=0471056693

these sites allow book sellers to list books for sale (similar to amazon's marketplace)

Off the shelf or custom work?

****If custom roughly how much does it cost get something similar developed?

    any comments are appreciated.

The first one looks custom, the 2nd might be something different. The only prebuilt system like what you're talking that I can think of is OS Commerce, which I'm not a big fan of, but if you want to go custom work, if it's just the shopping cart, for decent custom work probably about 400 - 600$, it depends how many features you want built in and how much extra work is needed on the site to incorporate it.

    thanks for the reply

but oscommerce doesn't offer a marketplace as described above.

So is marketplace hard to implement (meaning if i need a cart with a marketplace would this be considered to be a big project)?

    thanks

It's large enough it would take several hours minimum, it isn't just a few lines that you'd have to add in.

Try X-Cart. It's a pretty good commercial system with a number of good plugins that might do what you need.
