Using Social Networking Sites for Traffic

    Who has success with these?
    (websites like facebook and myspace)

I have about 17000 friends on myspace and post bulletins daily but since there is so much spam my bulletins are overlooked usually.

Facebook I have created a relative group for my site, I have about 200 members and message the group with updates. I get a fair amount of traffic from that.

You might have better success with other marketing methods which give you backlinks and targeted traffic..

I use to get some hits from MySpace but it depends on the Niche. I had a dating site and got quite a bit of traffic and I sold bulletins here and some of the people did well with Image hosting sites and dating sites. I would not put heavy stock in marketing through MySpace but it can be something in addition to everything else you do.
I have never used facebook so I couldn't answer that one.

I use myspace. I have 3300 friends. I mainly do comments to people with alot of friends. I get a hand full of visitors this way. Nothing to exciting but every visit counts. Especially when its free.

just because you have X amount of friends on your myspace does not mean they are all visiting your page repeatedly. it is very hard to market on myspace due to limitaton such as comments, bulletin, and the vast majority of people on there are just there to socially gossip and know who does who

there are better social sites such as mybloglogs, spicypages, etc that are geared towards specific niches

It is my experience that the 18-25 demographic on myspace is reachable, but the more mature users are very good at ignoring any marketing attempts. Further, so many of the myspace groups have been made private because of spam, that it is becoming harder to make friends in your niche.

Myspace, use it to get you ton of backlinks. find a good mass commenter, messager, account creator bot and make you multiple accounts, add some friends, then in like a week comment them all. it will get you a ton of backlinks in google and give you higher pagerank

I've been using Squidoo lately. The great thing about this is how easy it is to get indexed, and how easy it is to rank for highly competitive keywords.

Personally I think the vast majority of people on Myspace are too stupid to be of any interest for me. Then again that's just my business.

stumbleupon! well I am studying it now - because I just got a boost of traffic from there overnight when I was checking my stats this morning - read my post

I think specific soacial sites like stumbleupon is a social bookmarking site, well from what I have seen - since it was a burst of it
