I need to buy like 50-150 rabbits, where to find them?

I'm trying to find a place to buy rabbits in bulk. I'm not looking for exotic or show type rabbits. I'm looking for cheap rabbits like the ones used as food for snakes and other animals.
I'm not looking to actually feed the rabbits to anything or harm them in anyway, I'm actually looking to set loose 50-150 rabbits in the woods around my home. I am assuming a good percentage of them will get eaten by wild animals but if I buy 50 or more rabbits, I figure they will be able to breed and sustain their population around my home even as wild animals kill some of them off. I enjoy seeing rabbits in the yard of mornings and dusk hopping around. Can you help point me in the right direction? I'm having no luck with the SE's, all I find is the exotic type rabbits.

Before you purchase the rabbits, it may be prudent to check it they are classified as a pest by your local council/governing body. There most likely will be stiff penalities if you are judged to have released non-native animals for eg into a particular area.

It will save a lot in costs if you find out that it is not allowed and will also help indemnify you should you be charged later on.

I was hoping to find natural type rabbits like cottontails. The kind you see in nature.

Are there no rabbits by you already? I like rabbits myself, was one of my favorite animals as a kid. They however are a true pest and breed like crazy!

Speaking as a biologist I think that this is a bad idea. If rabbits belonged in that niche they would be there.
But regardless of this, you'd only need a couple of rabbits, because rabbits tend to breed like rabbits, if you get what I mean ;)

There are no rabbits here. And I don't have any gardens for them to mess up, just grass and trees. I don't see how they can turn into THAT big of a pest. I have two cats and a dog inside the house, so I highly doubt the rabbits will invade my home lol

How many do you think I need? Take into account:

    wild/natural predators
    feral cats
    cats
    dogs
    cars

Those things above can deplete a population of rabbits pretty fast ya know? I want to make sure the rabbits are able to re-produce and at least sustain their presence around the house. Maybe 50-100 is overkill lol
    What do you suggjest? 10? 20? 30?

I do have a neighbor, but they also own two dogs. We are talking about rabbits here, not mice or rats. I really don't think the rabbits are going to invade peoples homes...

I googled around, but then, farmers who breed livestock generally don't know what the internet is.

Best bet is to put up a few fliers around a farm market. Call if selling bulk rabbits, etc. This way you'll either get a call from the police warning that something's not right, and you'll escape with a warning, or get a call from a rabbit supplier. I think 30 rabbits are more than enough.

Carrots! 1500 years of stereotyping cant be wrong. :D

Anyway, the problem is that they dont live in his area. Rabbits tend to stay in the abundant area, not travel around looking for a better life.

If there are none in his area that would = they should not be there in the first place. Or are they possibly just not in his yard that he sees and possibly within range of moving to a new and better place?...

I can't imagine it being illegal to release a native breed of rabbit into the wild? That's like buying a native snake at a pet shop and then deciding to release it into the wild. How could it be illegal if they are found naturally in the wild ya know?

Maybe in your state, but many states and I 'thought' nationally as well it's illegal to release animals that do not belong in particular habitats.

Lakes for one have very strict laws even on what you can use as bait.

Should call your DNR office just to ask, if you legally can do it they might even beable to tell you who to call in inquire about buying some!

I know around here some of the farm markets, where you buy grain and stuff sell wild animals such as ducks, not sure on rabbits though.
