Does anyone have any recommendations? Open source would be nice (since they're free).

What is your opinion of Boonex Dolphin? I think that might be one?

Joomla would fit the needs of such a site, but that is just my opinion. You have to specify what sort of things you want the site to feature so that the DPers have a clear idea of what you need and what would be the best match for it with regards to functionality.

I was planning on a local/niche site that is basically a mimic of Match. I'd really favor a CMS that strictly does this sort of thing. I'm not a Joomla/Dupral fan for the most part.

    Huh, cool!

If you can get the publicity that plentyoffish got early on (via national news), then you'd be doing really well.

I think a mod needs to direct this thread to some of the other conversations currently taking place on this board, about this very same subject.

perhaps some links to threads would be nice - tying us all together in One thread, in hopes that we can come up with some solutions to what seems to be a very common need.

First of all, damn this is an OLD post. The funny part is that I still havent found anything, 2 years later :D

I haven't checked out AbleDating in a long time - looks pretty decent. That price tag is way more than I was expecting though...although it's worth it to me if this is the right solution.

Haha, yes I see now, a bit old thread :D
Check back on our software in the beginning of the 2010 (a month or a bit more from now). It will look much more decent. I should say, it will be like an atomic bomb, in a positive sence of the phrase, if there can be a positive sence to it of course. We have spent 3 years on it.

I agree with AndrewBo that it is a good idea to have a unique site. You will have a hard time building and trading links with other webmasters if you have a script that they have seen a million times before. Having something that nobody has ever seen before will definitely make a difference.

It is also a good idea to have a unique idea.

I always laugh when I hear how webmasters want a "cheap" or "free" dating script. If you want your website to make any money, you will have to spend a lot of time on SEO and site promotion. You may also spend a lot of money on SEO services and ppc advertising. Do you really want to spend all this time, effort and money on a lousy site with no unique or interesting features. What you want is something that will impress your visitors and make them want to sign up. You want a site that will be worth your effort.

My site http://www.ustillup.com - Late Night Hook Up - has almost a 50% sign-up rate. I recieve over 300 new visitors a day (700-800 including return visitors). Of these 300 new visitors, I get over 150 new members a day...and this is only scratching the surface. I stay motivated because I actually like what I'm promoting.

Hi Jason, I think your site if very nice, don't get me wrong. But what does it do that the latest (not the previous) version of Dolphin doesn't have?

    Thanks

My earlier post was referring to my ABK-Soft site (UstillUp).

Now let me just say this: It's a combination of having a great product that you believe in and spending the necessary time, effort and money promoting and advertising this product.

If your really great site never gets found, then it will never make you very much money. Also, if your site gets found all the time but nobody likes it or wants to join then you won't make much money either. See my point.

Nevertheless, you do have to admit that UstillUp is a pretty unique idea. I spent weeks searching the internet before I started this site, and could not find a single site that embrased a "late night hook up" theme - a site to find out "who else is still up?"
