Portfolio to review! stopdeadDesign.com

hello everyone,

just thought i'd try to get some feedback from the other designers (and non designers) on the board of my portfolio. I've been working on it for a while and its basically completed, i'm playing around with the right column a little bit and planning to add a scrollbar for the newsfeed from my blog.

haha thanks, i've had mixed responses about the name .. but a lot of the design/photography i do tends to have a slightly dark flare to it so it fits for me!

Really like your portfolio. The only thing I dislike is the text.

But other than that good job !!

 

Nice work. I think there needs to be something in the main frame when the homepage opens. Maybe if it was like a few of your recent works or something... Also, I don't know if your 'Product' section is needed. I think all the items there could be grouped into the 'design' and 'cover art' sections since that is mainly what they are.

You have a nice style though, keep up the good work!

thanks everyone! i appreciate the feedback. I've thought about adding content on the homepage but for now i will be leaving it as is until i have some new content to add, then i may play around with the index page just a bit.

and ~Searinox , as for the text i assume you mean the menu? originally i was using a more exciting font but that ment they all had to be images and making these editable text makes updates/changes wayyy easier on me. Once i think the navigation is fully set i think i will make those changes to the text though. thanks!

Just my opinion, try change menu brown color with silver gray

 

The portfolio is pretty good, you might want to add content to your homepage, maybe "featured" pieces from each section perhaps?

thanks! i've been playing around with it a bit since reading your suggestion, silver ended up being a bit too light but black with a gradient seems to fit pretty nicely. i'm still trying different things with the gradient intensity but i'll get it eventually

 

Nice design -- the only thing I would recommend changing at this point is the footer. I like the little vectorial design you've done for it, but the gradient bar above that is just kinda ugly to be honest.

There are two things I don't like about it. The first is that black bar that takes up the bottom third of it... I really dislike that. The pattern is okay, and the gradient is a little too strong for my taste, but those aren't the biggest issues.

The other thing I dislike about the footer is how the white content just suddenly becomes the footer... there's no border of any kind. This is just my preference, but what I tend to do when designing my footers is to apply a Drop Shadow with a Distance of 1. Then reduce the opacity a bit. I feel it gives the bar a nice little shading that makes it fit in perfectly against most background colours.

Other than that, very nice design

 

I was a little lost when I first went to the homepage. the big blank space in the middle threw me off. Put a nice montage in the empty space on the homepage.

I like the right hand column, dont change it, perhaps look at extending the main left table to the edge and left align the page.

I understand the use of white space, however think you have too much white space, and lost the focus. Try darkening the BG or giving it a texture.

I also digg your portfolio, specially the screen print and your text grunge treatments, your photoshop compositions could do with a little more refining.

But I can see you have put in a lot of work into your design and it shows through, Congrads and good luck and have fun

 

Thanks! thats a good idea about the pixel shadow, i'll give that a try this weekend when i get a chance. i'm still sort of trying out different things for the footer so i may change that at the same time. thanks for your advice, i appreciate it!
