Has anyone else had a problem using phpproxy with people sending SPAM through your server? I have all proxies on my server except for 3 other sites (proxy list, and two other prox related)...and trying to see if anyone else has had this issue as I have no idea how to find where it came from.

But it originated off the dedicated server.

 

This happens often once your proxy grows. If you host with me I handle all abuse complaints and you don't have to worry about it.

Its actually a problem which only can be handled by the host . So the host should take the responsibility of it, not a client.

if your site visitors are using your site script to send spam then it's your responsibility if it will even require removing this script

actually by enabling your visitors to send spam from your site then you will be violating any host's TOS and will get your account terminated

 

As far i know, there are no ways to block the spam without moderating your php rules . Proxy spam uses the PHP open directories to send the spam, which is out of reach for a client?

 

Just block the IP's that use the most bandwidth.

 

Nope mate, we were actually talking about sending spam emails using proxy, which are regularly caught by the spamcop these days and sends abuse report regularly to NOC

If the script the client is using allows site visitors to send spam, then it's 3rd party script issue and it's not the host responsibility to give support and maintain 3rd party scripts.

 

SpamCop has become an unfunny joke.

They among all people should know how easy it is to spoof an IP and mail headers but they continue to send out complaints like they're an authority on the subject to peoples hosts.

The amount of peoples time they waste I'm sure is nearing the amount of time most data centers spend removing real spam.

 

Mate, check what i said . Proxy scripts are useable to send spams when php is allowed to send mails using open directories. So you have to block php from sending mails using open directories which isn't possible by a client untill his host secure his PHP I hope you would get it now

 

Your thinking of shared hosts. The real proxy owners run dedicated servers so they have access to everything.

As for modifying the scripts, I found a way around that and seems to work well with over 60 clients on DEDICATED servers. My VPS clients proxies are too small to get noticed by bots.

and you can change php setting in a htaccess file or php.ini in your public_html folder. your host might have somthing to say about it though.

Can you run a proxy with 128MB RAM on a VPS? How much RAM do your proxies need on average?

That is a vague question. Although 128 megs of ram is barely enough to run the OS & control panel and associated applications. Small or new proxies can run on 256+ megs. Bigger proxies can use anywhere from 1-8GB of ram to multiple 8GB ram servers. I run my proxies across multiple quad-core servers with 8GB of ram in DNS round robin. It really depends on how big your proxy is.

For new proxy site under 500 Unique visitor / day. can i run a 15 proxy site with 1 GB of RAM ?

 

Yes, that sounds like enough assuming phproxy or any php variant. CGIproxy might be pushing it but should handle it with good optimization.
