    They're all too overcrowded.
    Getting jobs is hard.

Getacoder.com and getafreelancer.com are alright though.

I always get my job done on getafreelancer.com, but if you want to watch the people while they do your project try odesk. this site mostly freelancer with hourly rates. Elance is tooo large for small projects. Other good sites: guru, rentacoder

very interesting thread, personally i have had bad experience with getafreelancer. As other guys mentioned above there are lots of very poor quilified "1-man-army" specs.
Personally i agree with amf-flt and prefer to stick with a local freelancer platforms as it is easier to negotiate and solve any problems for both client and freelancer.
By the way, can somebody suggest some similiar freelance platforms or classifieds portals in the UK?

Have worked for 3 years almost on elance. Seems the best one for me. I also have a guru account, but it's been pretty useless so far.

The life of freelancer workers is very cool and beautiful when everything is well planned. The most important thing for a freelancer and everyone who is offering a product is to have a person who is interested to buy he’s products and/or services.

That’s why, this post will help freelance web designers, programmers or writers to improve their online freelancing income. There are tons of experienced web designers, programmers and writers that are making great money using freelancing websites. If you want to become one of them you should definitely be a part of the freelancing communities bellow.

    1) Guru
    2) Elance
    3) Allfreelance.com
    4) LogoMyWay
    5) Project4Hire
    6) Freelance Writing
    7) ProgrammingBids
    8) Get A Freelancer
    9) oDesk
    10) RentACoder
    11) PHP Freelancers
    12) Aquent

There are many of them, best these are best; each of them are special for a particular skill, but are best suits for a large number of skill sets. Elance and GURU, is a good place to start with. If you are good, and know who to satisfy your clients, you can become bigger.

i have started working as freelancer on these website july 2006, and now running a good company.

At the initial stage you might have to face a lots of hurdle, as you need to earn good reviews + feedbacks. But panic, there are buyers who loves to gets quality, not just cheap or low cost service. Yes, most of these websites are filled by indian freelancers (me too), but no matter where are you from, at last your quality and skill set will always WIN the race.

Hope that helps, my best wishes are with you.

The best one out there right now and so far the biggest one is oDesk. I tried posting various jobs and the results is always almost instant. The other freelance sites (all are.coms) available are:
    *Guru
    *Elance
    *Freelance

There are a lot of outsourcing / freelancing websites such as odesk, elance, getafreelancer, geatcoder, Vworker. All of these outsourcing website are real and authentic but as a beginner, I think you should start with elanc which is the perfect place for getting the job.

    Best of luck

I say elance works best, just make sure what your work would be. Everything professionally done, I just do much of it myself, then give it to people who have great portfolios.
