    How would they have created the following image in photoshop. It is a rectangle which slides up to another level.

    I know we have our basic rectangle, rounded rectangle, eclipse, polygon, line and custom tool BUT how do you create the image above

    If someone has a different way of doing it than someone else please post, thanks in advance

    you can try Polygonal Lasso Tools to make it.
    here is the basic sample made with that tools.

    i made in fast - less than 2 minutes, so can not so detail to round and just show to you how the tools made it. but if you cannot made it round you can join with elips tools. there is many trick to made an image in photoshop.

    Pen tool for teh shape, with brushes to add shadow and depth. White fill with low opacity to create 'glass' look

    It's made in Photoshop (obviously) and they used the Pen Tool, as someone already stated. The Polygonal Lasso could work, but as you stated, it has rounded edges; which is what the pen tool does.

    Besides that, it's just a matter of two different gradients, and a drop shadow to make the rest. And, ofcourse, a few other minor steps like a white stroke, etc.
