Need a Basic CMS

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by V99, Nov 15, 2007.

I was wondering if anyone knew a free, basic, and simple to use CMS.
All I want it to be able to do is to edit the HTML of a given page in a small website in a simple GUI, like Dreamweaver but in a browser.

Surely there must be something like this, I don't want a huge, complicated CMS like Joomla.

    Cheers

    hi
    i m php programmer.
I have made CMS system and that is very robust.
    Some of its features are:
    1) You can add menu name and page name thr' it.
    2) It supports multi-level hierarchy of menu.
    3) You can enable/disable particular menu.
    4) You can Add/Edit/Delete all menu.
    5) As You will do all above stuff thr' this CMS admin panel, in front side whole menu and related page link is created.
    So just simply usable.
I m working as freelancer. if want then email me. i ll send u budget of it.
    cheers

    Wordpress is:
    made for blogging
    centered around blogging
    slower than many lightweight CMS

You'll have to configure it differently, edit and hack themes, and still wait for the stupid thing to load all it's files. It's got the best support, most plugins and features etc.

It's the best option for blogs, but not for "simple CMS"

For simple CMS you'll want to try either:
    NanoCMS or WebSiteBaker (both free)

I went through scores of them before I found these are the best. Particularly WebsiteBaker. However, NanoCMS doesn't use databases so it's a plus for the cheap ones without a mysql database.

I use WebsiteBaker on all my sites unless they are Blogs or Community Driven Portals...

It's made for exactly what you are after. If you need support with it feel free to PM me.

I think Joomla is best choice for you. I can't see complication in this open source product. It seems to "complicated", but in fact. It really very simple CMS to creation website high - quality class.

There is far too much complication in Joomla. One wrong move and you are having difficulties in retrieving your last step.

While you can use wordpress to manage an entire site, it really is geared more towards blogging.

I love Joomla, and would never use anything but. Try installing various WYSIWYG mambots and see if you grow to like it. I use TinyJCE, free and much better than the default WYSIWYG :)

Maybe "...one wrong move..." have been in previous version of Joomla!, but not in 1.0.13 (last modification). Perhaps you being confused for big amount extensions. Type extensions: components, modules or plugins. However have one general advantage - J! is scalable very good.

I have used Joomla before, and I find it much more difficult to use than Drupal. Although the former does come well-equipped with a lot of plugins and modules, but additional plugins and modules are not always free; this is unlike the latter. Hence, in terms of open source, Drupal is always the chosen CMS of my choice.

In terms of manageability, Joomla is fine; but not in terms of configurability. I find it extremely hard to configure Joomla and to modify the templates according to my needs. Drupal, however, provides an easy platform and it's certainly a better choice for CMS!
