Alternatives to Gimp/Photoshop?

I'm on a tight budget and have a PSD that I want to code but all the Adobe products are too expensive. I would like something thats either free or more affordable. I would use Gimp but it doesn't work well with my PSD's

Photoshop elements would probably be your best bet. I don't know if you are a student or not but you might want to look into getting a student version of the software for a fraction of the cost from somewhere like Studica.
