Put your *.atn in your photoshop subdirectory /Presets/Photoshop Actions/

To use ps action, you must load the action. First click the tab action on the right usually beside history tab, click the triangle on the upper right, choose load actions.
Make some text (or shape if it a shape action), then click the triangle icon (play selection) on the bottom, and you'll see the action works.

I think you have text on the clipboard before open photoshop, so when you make new file it on the grayscale 8 bit mode. To check it, make new file and press ctrl-v, when the text appear, it's because the clipboard text.

    Try this

Open your photoshop, make sure there no text in the clipboard
Make new file, make sure it's RGB color mode 8 bit
Draw shapes or anything with some color
    Save any_file_name.psd
    Close your file
    Exit photoshop

If you open photoshop and make new file it will on RGB mode

If you have open type fonts, you should install here

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts

I still remember when PS use ATM (adobe type manager), but I forget where they put the fonts. If in AMT subfolder you find file with *.otf than it's the right place to put your new fonts.
