Memory for design

    I have to make a graphic design at 3236 x 2173 px .

I know that my computer won't support that kind of size, since i have problems when i make a template on 1000x1000 px .

    I have an AMD SEMPRON 2.2 - MOTHER ASRCOK K7VM3 - 512 MB OF RAM @ 333 MHZ - 15" crt monitor .

So i want to know the following things ?

1_ How much memory should i add to be able to do that work without problem ?
2_ Does it only depends of the memory ? i mean if i only have to get a new memory to make sure that i'll be able to design .

    Kind Regards,
    BLT .

you havent mentioned what application you are working on.

anyway 1GB should do the work :) if your still power hungry get core2 or quad processor and 2 gb memory ;)
and i hope you have a graphic card

don't forget that he doesn't live in usa

I don't think you'll be able to work well with 1gb since the entire computer is outdated. First, the DDR memory frequencis are too low, so the amount of data that they can write/read is less than an 800mhz DDR2. The processor isn't good, it's not 64bits and it isn't dual core too so maybe only photoshop uses 100% of the processor. Not to mention that you have an 15' crt monitor lol.

I'd say that you have to buy another computer. Why ? because if you want to change the CPU you'll have to change the motherboard, the ram (DDR2 instead DDR) and the vga (PCI-Express instead AGP)

Zeba5, while I would be the first to admit that BLT doesn't have the best computer for the job, I don't think telling him he needs to buy a new pc is going to help. I know he can't afford it, so he has to make do the best he can with what he's got.

Do you think he could still get a result, albeit (very) slowly, using 1 gb?

he asked if the problem it's only because of the ram. In my opinion it isn't. I don't know if he can afford a new computer or not. If he can't buy a new one , then he should buy more ram (1.5gb would be the best) it isn't the best solution but he definitely will be able to design better.

If you want to avoid the waiting or lagging when using photoshop cs2, better upgrade your ram at least 1gb. I'm using sempron 1.8 right, but using 1gb of ram. No problem at all when designing.

No, 512mb ram is "ok" for you to start your design, but memory is not the only thing you need to concern. CPU speed and graphic card also play a role here.

Ram helps - also search Google for "photoshop optimization tutorial"
