    This looks really cool:

    http://www.aphic.com/blog/content/binary/lovepixel.gif

But I wonder what they used to create that thing? Do you think there is a software that could do something with a drag-and-drop interface? or maybe that is all done bit by bit in photoshop or paint?

It's painstakingly done pixel by pixel. That's what makes it good.

Now there's finally a use for MSPaint! :)

You can get round it using adobe photoshop. I used to use MS paint, but the pencil tool allows you to do pixel by pixel. Why is photoshop better? because it allows you to work in layers and use opcaity ;)

Thanks for the links :D I've just tried a bit and boy, it's gonna take awhile... I don't have enough time for this so I'll just look around for ready-made ones and ask them for the license to use..

I dont understand pixel art - is it really creating it pixel by pixel? Ive seen the term around but i always thought it was another term for raster art before reading this thread. Also i i have to ask... WHY do it? whats the fascination?
(dont take offense at this - im genuinelly interested!)

It's an art style. It's like asking why do pointalism, or abstract?

There are numerous pixel-art styles. One of the most popular is the isometric sort.

Isometric is great, there are some really impressive cityscapes. Also, the more "portrait" approach takes skill as your zoomed in, drawing loads of pixels so when you zoom out it makes a whole image. It's probably hard to describe and understand. Some think of it as a sort of "retro-style" art. As old 16 bit games used to use pixels to draw awesoem looking games like streets of rage and sonic. I love it :D
