Ok, I have had a look around and there is a Facebook clone, but how would I add the applications used in Facebook? Are these added by other programmers who are seperate to Facebook?

There are so many on Facebook so I wouldnt know where to start, they seem to be added daily. I used PHPizabi to create a standard community but the mods (apps) are really basic and quite expensive, so a Facebook clone would be much better. PHPizabi came as a standard cms and I had to purchase the mods seperate.

The apps are user added many times, so you wont be able to keep up with the volume. Why not create something more innovative then facebook, but base it on a web 2.0 or 3.0 CMS.

Facebook is turning into a mess. The original appeal it had was that it was far more organized and clean looking than MySpace. However, Facebook is gradually deteriorating.

Instead of trying to "clone" Facebook, try to make something better and original. If you make a nice social networking site without all the crap the Facebook or MySpace has, I would gladly join and use it.

I agree. Simplification is the way to go. In anycase, no third-pary clone is going to be able to replicate the Facebook API, so it is not even worth wishing for.

facebook is clusterf*** i agree... But it still seems some people really enjoy all of the "features"=trash you can use now. Mostly people who do not know anything about design or the such... They say "oh look... I can use a program that makes a fart noise whenever i cllick send, awesome" Waste of resources IMO

I doubt you could use the 3rd party apps with a facebook clone script. I'm looking around for some good social networking software, but haven't found anything that looks that good yet -
