How can i promote a social networking site?
i am onto link building.
what else can i do?
its just 1 day old.

 

I have also social networking site but it's really hard to build a good community. i also need to know how to build a community.

 

trade links with other people
tell a friend to tell a friend
include things other networks do not have
don't be just another one

 

Links on high traffic entertainment sites may help. Also, as mentioned by Ali, try to include the things which other networks dont have.

Buy signature and site links. Post on social networks site and say that your site is better and what is better for?. Buy pop-under traffic and increase your site traffic and your Alexa ranking. Post on blog site that is suitable for your site.

 

1. Put a "send to a friend" from on some of your pages. Don't have them click on a link that goes to the form. You want it in front of their faces.

2. As usual, do click ads. Start with as many search engines as you can. Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista, Ask, LookSmart....

Talk about controversial stuff, and get opinions:

"45-year-old man marries a 17-year-old."

Advertise such subjects all over the place. Both on and offline. Put flyers all over the place, especially near schools.

"Putting On A Condom In 3 Seconds?!"

"A Neat Parlor Trick Revealed For Getting On The First Page Of Google."

The subject about the high school girl quitting to do her website would be a good flyer to tack up near schools.

"17-Year-Old Quits School, Pisses Mom Off, But Makes Over A Million Dollars. Mom Is No Longer Pissed."

Get word of mouth going with them!

Don't forget DIGG, and other such sites.

Also write articles on such subjects, and submit them to as many content sites as you can.

Go to other Networks to see what are the popular subjects. Follow suite.

5. Put in cool videos teenagers and young adults like.

6. Put in a online stereo that gives your users an option to play, or not.

7. Put in cool and funny pictures.

8. Get a MySpace page going, and have some of the things there as you do in your Network, and then tell all your "friends" to check out your new Network.

There's more, but I'm fucking tired. I'm going to bed. But the main things you have to push is the "send to a friend" forms, and thinking of really cool, really far out, really life-enhancing subjects for your Network, and then advertising them both on and offline.

Word of mouth and advertising are the two biggest methods on how the big sites became big. You just need to know, HOW, to advertise.

Awesome tips from Perry, in general social communities are perfect for viral marketing, pretty much like forums. Get a base of motivated "heavy users" who participate alot and you are set. As Perry said, controversial stuff people have very strong opinions on always works great, trigger strong emotions.

 

you can offer some incentives for your members to refer their friends.

it doesn't neccessarily have to be monetary incentives.

Just get creative!

I guess social network needs a huge kick start. If you don't get a lot of visits fast and new members fast, than people will look at site as dead and never come back.

You can always try with subvert and profit, buy 80 digg votes and make it to the front page.

 

Promote through other social networking sites.

 

If its a niche social netoworking site you can add a group of your site on main social networks like facebook, myspace etc and invite people to join.

Try finding forums that would be interested on your network also.

 

Sure you'll be banned by DIGG!

 

if you want a good network site (thats not a niche) ask the bank for alot of money and spend it all on advertising or just post ALOT of posts on other networks like myspace, facebook bebo.. etc etc

 

done it few times, always worked, never been banned. I did get banned exchanging diggs on this forum
