Web 2.0 text eh? what does web 2.0 mean to you?

I always thought web 2.0 meant something about a knowledge-oriented environment where human interactions generate content that is published, managed and used through network applications in a service-oriented architecture.

I guess I didn't realize the online service-oriented nature of a piece of text.

Will somebody tell me why everybody keeps throwing 'web 2.0' on everything around here, and what it means to you people?

i can say that "web 2.0 style". it's all about effects (gradients, reflections, soft shadows etc) on the graphics :)

but surely you don't think we didn't have gradients, reflections and soft shadows before web 2.0 websites showed up......

There is such thing as BYC design too, it tends to happen a lot in Photoshop. That is Because You Can design.

Shadows, grapdients, all that draw attention to the design, but they do nothing to improve the design itself. I'd put more time into making a good solid design than buttering it up.

maybe this is some kind of new trend that people always make, like hot news on the net..and people spread the news and have a wrong thought about it later..:D

I always attributed it to ignorance and non-professionalism but it could be considered a trend

yes, it could be considered a trend. I give you an example - music. music keep changing and changing its style. same thing with graphic design. after web 2.0, could be 3.0, 4.0... whatever it is... it's still keep changing... for sure :)

honestly, I'm not into web 2.0 style because it's to easy to implement. and, maybe my design background is different... dark art, macabre art, photo manipulation. it's impossible to put an element of 2.0 styles lol.
