It's not faster than IE. And this can be seen most in Vista. It loads instantaneous. And if it crashes, is not like IE 6, to take all the explorer.exe process down with it :) Because iexplore.exe is now a separate instance of explorer.exe.

Example: try to open a local drive or folder in IE. It opens Explorer instead.
Try to open a web page in Explorer. It opens IE.

You have to be a web developer to see all the bugs. IE is unreliable and unpredictable when you create web pages. It is 10 years behind in its support of languages and web technology; items which all other browsers have supported well. For example, there is no support for xhtml. It does not support CSS 2.1 well or correctly. It's support of the DOM is still in 1998.

But IE8 repaired that and gained much improvements, so it beated even "the great" FF3.

As a matter of fact, I am a web developer, and I had problems with FF, not IE.

IMO both are about the same apart from 2 major things:

    - FF search is better, its instant!
    - FF's caching is better than IE. It still refreshes the page to display updated data while re-using cached images. Something that IE doesn't do as IE just caches the entire page and loads everything all over again.

IE8 "repaired" little. PPK is writing his reports now. There have been improvements but overall he reports it as "disappointing" and not on par with other browsers. It can not in any way come close to any other browser, including FF2.0, Opera or Safari.

    btw, Safari nightly builds pass 95/100 Acid3 tests. Opera is at 85/100. Firefox3 is at 87/100. IE8 -- 17/100.

I think Mozilla Firefox 2.0 was much more stable. Ever since I got 3, it keeps bugging me with some or the other error. But still, a buggy mozilla is much better than internet explorer.

I been using firefox for 6 months or so and I fell confident in saying Mozilla Firefox is 1000 times better than IE. I just wish I learned about firefox sooner.
