Still Running Windows 98 or Windows ME

Anyone still running these Operating systems? I thought I heard that support will be ending in a few months. Is this correct and what does it mean exactly? Will there be no more security updates?

No more support, no more updates, blah blah blah.
But then why would anyone still have 98?
And who in the world ever got ME?

Of course, I actually know someone still running 95!

Bring back the days of 3.1

    LOL

You want as a minimum Win2k these days, otherwise there is too many compatibility issues.

Iam running xp and 98 (which one is great). Just install unofficial service pack and enjoy speed and comfort.

Support for 98 ended months, maybe year ago. still, good OS. but, that is my subjective opinion.

I have xp pro, and anxiously awaiting for the next version- (is it called vista?)

This is supposed to be much more secure and virus/hacker proof.

I don't have an "in" any more at msft, but I'm certain msft has had employees using this version for months. They call it "eating your own dog food"

Windows 98 is obsolete and is ME(It was never a hit i guess). They are not stable, they don't have support for networking.

I used NT, then switched onto 2000, now on XP Pro.

Back when I got my first computer in 2001, there was only Windows 98 available as an option to me at the shop I bought the system, and I took it. Turns out that whenever one application crashed, it tends to bring down the entire system, since the 9x family didn't feature protected system memory.

I got sick and tired of having to restart my computer after playing a few games that I ripped 98 off the hard disk, and went with 2000. It was so much more stable (didn't crash for the entire time I had it, until early this year, when I upgraded to XP) that I didn't regret the fact that I couldn't use FireFox (somehow the two didn't play together well).

I'm still using 98. It works fine for me. :p

I'm starting to find a few things here and there that I want to try that require XP, but nothing I really need.

If the time comes when it starts bugging me, I'll upgrade then. It ain't broke, so no need to fix/upgrade it. I'm not one for the latest technological gadgets, widgets, watchamacallits, fandangle thingies ... as long as I can do my stuff I'm happy.

    :)

We still have a number of old machines on 98 that do not connect to the internet and have a specific task that they do every day of the week for a few hours. They just run the one peice of software that was written in 1999 and thats all they do :)

I just upgrade them when the disk dies or something else breaks. It does it's job and they dont complain of speed issues because the software that they are only authorised to use works perfectly well :)

I know some people who are still running Windows 98 and if you look in your logs there are a surprising number of people who still use it.

I was one of the first people to get Windows XP - lucky me eh? - as when I bought my last PC I had a choice of XP, 98 or ME. My PC arrived with XP before it was officially released - and it is genuine software.

I just talked with someone yesterday who was still running Win98. I asked why and he said something to the effect that upgrading was "just too dang expensive". I saw his point. Win2000 and WinXP aren't exactly cheap for those on a budget.
