    Yahoo’s algorithm is based on incoming links. Get as many as incoming links possible and your good to go. Quality is not relevant here :)

    Many SEOs claim that on-page factors work better than links with Yahoo. Repetition of keywords, both on page and off-page, can help. The title tag is very important. Link anchor text helps some but not as much as with Ask, Google, and Live.

    Your site rank can be increased by increasing the number of back links.

    The best thing to increase the bac link sis to answer questions in the yahoo answers community.

    This will increase both the links ans will bring traffic to your site.

    If you owned yahoo I think you would know how to promote it but if you're talking about another site that you want more yahoo traffic from I would make a rss feed and submit it to about 50 rss sites then add the rss feed link to a few my yahoo accounts. That will get you more indexed pages and send more yahoo traffic.

    I despair of Yahoo. Their customer care is non existent. their untrained staff appear to be capable of speaking only in jargon which even they do not understand.
    Using the same key words as on Google ads, produces a miserable result and Yahoo has no interest whatsoever.

    Am I doing something wrong or are they really useless

    I would do a variety of things such as:

    Get more incoming links and Update content frequently, those are the basics but you can really expand on that and go up in SE rankings quite rapidly.

    Keep adding new unique content. Keywords are important but key phrases are also important. The more quality content the better.
