Celebrity fan sites, do adsense ads convert well?

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by cgchris99, Jun 7, 2006.

I have stumbled upon a possible celebrity fan/info type of site and was wondering if it is worth pursuing. Will Adsense ads do well on this type of site? It's getting about 1500 view/mnth

    Thanks for any info.

50 views a day will probably do about 2 clicks a day at 20 cents per; in other words not much. But who knows, that particular celebrity may blow up and you may benefit.

Celebrity sites are very low-paying across the board. Someone quoted .20-cents a click, which is overly optimistic. Once you've gained enough traffic and gotten enough clicks, you'll eventually be smartpriced (probably about 2 weeks to a month after you start making good money), and your clicks will plummet to .5-.6 cents per click. But there's an upside; celebrity sites are also easy to convert into high-traffic sites, so you can optimize your earnings through CPM banners, making up the difference for the lost due to smartpricing.

lol, clebrity clicks are probably lowest in adsense. .01 click are the norms and you can consider yourself lucky if any click worth a nickel. .06 max and average is .03

I run a celebrity site and while it's not breaking the bank, AdSense is earning me a nice chunk of money, last month I broke $60 and this month I'm on track for $80. But this is with over 16,000 visitors per month.

Plus I'm covering over 100 celebrities, whether that works for or against me I don't really know :) Regardless, given some good ol' fashioned labor, celebrity sites can make nice change.

Also, unless you've actually run a celebrity site, I wouldn't be giving out numbers like "$0.06 max" (or any numbers for that matter). I've had clicks as high as $0.40. My average click this week has been over $0.06.

I've actually run a celebrity site (or two or a few dozen). Regardless of how much you're making now, you'll eventually be smartpriced and the CPC will plummet to .5-.6 cents per. When it happens to you, don't say nobody told you. ;)

My comment was actually directed at ewest... believe it or not, I respect your opinion, jack, I've seen what you have to offer around the board and you've helped me out in a couple of my own posts :p

Well, if I get smartpriced, I get smartpriced, nothing I can do about that. Fortunately, I'm having moderate success with selling links on my own (which I forgot to mention before as an alternative revenue). I think in 3-4 months I might be able to match my AS revenue by selling links.

    sketch,
I,m running few celeb sites, some of which gets 1000 unique a day. Though I get some higer clicks, average always settle down to .03 ~ .04.

My other niches with far lesser traffic pays me in a day, what those celeb sites get me in a month.

Try putting same efforts on other niches to see how crap the 'celeb' niches are.

    Just my 2c.

Heh heh, no worries, I know you meant him. Just wanted to say that celeb sites are very lucrative in the short term, but the best option is to quickly convert your traffic into CPM banners and affiliates. Don't rely solely on Adsense for too long because the price won't last.

I have one celeb site but it's not worth the time. Not a lot of ads that is relevant and the ones that's there mostly goes to MFA sites :(

I'll toss in my two cents.

I knew nothing and started with a celeb site last march. It has blown up and I make $1,000+ a month, none from AdSense. I do get a ton of traffic.

I have just started with AdSense at the end of april, but only on new small sites, as my main one has some minor nudity.

So I have now added it to maybe 8 celeb sites. Some are doing well. I am sure I will get smart priced soon, but I have seen some clicks as high as 1.66 (on my anna kournikova site). But for the most part avg is around .10 cents per.

Celeb traffic is easier to get, but pays less so it is a trade off. I already get many thousands of celeb visators so it makes sense for me to create more sites for them to visit.

I run more than 20 celeb sites. Some of them makes around $0.50 a day (with 2000 visitors) and some of them (actually one or two) makes more than $40.00 a day (with 5000 visitors) a day. So its not always same for all celebs.. there are many things you need to consider.. which celeb you are targetting (not the popular one.. but the onces for which there are advertisers).. and how you place the ads (and hence CTR rate)...

I am 100% with jimkarter, and the exact same case is with me. I am building more and more and more fansites everyday to find all those 2 that will get me 30-50 a day. I have 50+ fansites already.

Jack. The one or two sites I am talking about are more than 1 year old and each earn more than $1200 each.. My acount in total earns more than $20,000. Is it not enough for smart pricing? If you think so, then I would happily disagree with you.

I don't really care to argue. If you say you make that much with a celebrity site, more power to ya. I offered my take on it and people are free to take it or ignore it as they wish. /shrug

I have a urban entertainment/gossip site and it's doing pretty well so far (since mid-April) I'm averaging between $35-$50 a day right now. Daily revenues fluctuate wildly I guess due to smart pricing. Today, for the first time, I placed YPN ads on some pages that don't have Adsense and I'm not happy with the YPN revenue so far. I guess maybe I should replace all the Adsense ads with YPN for a few days and see the results.
