    Hello Friends,

i am looking solution for following issue

how to make .gif (Transparent) that can use on any background color without loosing quality.

i know one option on photoshop but it is not working as i want quality.
    from photoshop Ctrl+Alrt+Shift+S
i know this but there is matte option to make gif if you use matte color for ex.white then it will not work on any background like red, black it will work for white background only, and if you do not use matte then quality will not look good.

so plz can any one tell me what to do

I second that, PNG was created to replace GIF over 10 years ago.

The values of a PNG are that it saves smaller files

It has variable transparency, not just fully opque or fully transparent like GIF (you can do gradients or drop shadows)

And that it has Gamma correction, meaning the colour will automatically adjust on a darker or lighter screen so it will display exactly as you have saved it on you own machine.

    best of luck with PNG!

I second PNG. GIF format does not support full transparency, only the indexed (1-bit) one.

    have you tried IrfanView?
it lets you choose the quality of a picture and add cool effects.
for jpg's, i save a picture in paint and its a little blury, when i used IrfanView is looks more better. It has an option for transparency and you just click whatever spot on your picture to become transparent.

    hope this works =]

JPG does not support transparency, and should *ONLY* be used when saving a photograph (as in from a camera), never for anything designed, or anything that has text on it. and you should never dip below 85% quality ever.

PNG is a format designed for web - it's lossless and beautiful, it's worth reading up on it at wikipedia and getting some optimization programs. I use PNGcrush and it makes the the smallest little files they can possibly be, but since the quality is perfect there's aboslutely no visible difference.
Photoshop has some support for making and saving Transparent PNG's, but in this case I'd highly recommend the GIMP because it can open almost any type of image file and saves to PNG very elegantly.

http://gimp.org < it's free so why not give it a spin!

transparent .png will be better then anything else .GIF or .bmp

i suggest you get a javaScript plugin for your Transparent .png (browser compatibility) issue.

You can use PNG format for full transparency...

Anyway, if you're still want to use GIF format make sure your image is fulfilled on the edges (like pixel art). You can't get good result if parts of your image have, for example, 50% opacity... It will looks bad on different backgrounds. I know it could be frustrated if you're making images with curved edges, but it can't be clear as it can when you're using PNG format...

    Good luck!

There's also a great non-script solution with 8-bit PNG containing full 8-bit alpha channel (PNG 8/8). In modern browsers it's displayed properly, while in the IE6 the edges are dithered a bit.

true... but it can be solved with javascript and it will work... the bad thing here is because users must have javascript enabled, so it's not 100%...

Such a general statement leads to confusion. ONLY the PNGs that contain full alpha channel (8-bit) cause problems in IE6. The 1-bit transparency ones are displayed properly.
Also the 8/8PNG solution I've mentioned above solves the IE6 display problem without any need for a script.

There's no point in discouraging people from using a great format with false statements.

    You're better off with png.

Save your transparent image for web (CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S in CS3) and select PNG-24 preserve transparency, and you'll be golden.

I also save my logo files in PNG format. You need to have transparent background with logos especially if you'll be putting it in a the header. and same thing i've noticed, designs have better quality when saved as PNG.

PNG will however not display properly on IE browsers. In most cases it will show a light blue color instead of the transparence. You would like to try create a new document in photoshop with transparent background and use a lose opacity to the image and save it as gif. However GIF has its own problems with IE (or rather, IE has problems with everything) if you use shadows, it will completely lose quality.
