Migrating established site to new domain and CMS - How messy is this?

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by DigitalHouseNewYork, Dec 5, 2008.

Basically what I want to do is take an established site that I have and move it from the current domain and wordpress cms to a new domain and drupal cms. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in doing something similar. Specifically I want to know a couple things, mainly, whats the best way to perform the actual transfer so that

    A. My permalinks stay intact.
    B. I maintain my index and page rank stats in the search engines.

Is this going to be a messy transfer? Please share any experiences you have had in doing this, and any helpful pointers or things I should look out for. Thanks in advance.

Hi... If you want to make the established site work on then just move the files, mainly config has to be edited and some database configs..

    Thats all..

    A. Ur permalinks will remain intact.. don't worry about it..

    B. As you said you r going to use this one a new domain... So page indexing will no where be helpfull..Search engines will crawl ur new domain an index it accordingly...

    Thanks

I'm an idiot. forgot about having to redirect the old domain anyway. Is there a migration tool you would recommend for the wp to drupal?

thanks for the offer, I can probably manage it though. Ive heard of scripts to automate this process though, used to be one called wordpress united or something like that. Anyone else heard of something similar that would work on current versions of wp and drupal?
