1 hosting account, 2 domains

Discussion in 'General Business' started by advancedfuture, Mar 28, 2007.

I have 1 hosting account. and 2 domains I want to build websites for.

Does anyone know how I can host both on the same site... so when someone goes to example2.com it redirects them to the right place, instead of both example1.com and example2.com both landing on the same page?

P.S - I couldnt find the proper forum for this, so mods you can move it if there is a better spot...

It can be done but does your host support multiple domain hosting on a single account?

Get a host that allows multiple domains in a single shared hosting account like hostgator, bluehost or dreamhost

If they allow only 1 domain (I guess you currently have that setup at godaddy), then it's better to use domain forwarding at your domain registrar.

you have to watch on some of these hosting companies. Once your uniques get real high they will kick you off - one that will do this is hostgator , if you are looking for a good dedicated server wiredtree.com you might pay more but you don't have to worry about being kicked off.

    just my two cents.

i have heard about kicked off from hostgator but does it really mean completely lost your site & content? or just a bandwidth?

I would recommend getting a host that allows you to host multiple domain names.

I allow 'Parked and Add-on Domains', which is what you're after. I'm in the middle of a redesign right now so won't be offeneded if you dont care ;)

Pretty much any host with CPanel will allow this, be carefull though. GoDaddy shared accounts are just false advertising.

If you have any friends that have hosting, you could ask them to host it for you and then just have ti forwarded to your other domain. This would save you money but it may be wiser just for you to upgrade or buy new hosting.

create another home directory, in addition to the one that already exists.

point each domain to one of the two home directories.

boom, two sites on one account :)

My hosting company offers 100 add on domains with the packages, so it is possible. Just use the add domain function in Cpanel. Many hosting companys offer this
