That's not the way the real world works. I've been burned by clients who have / had the good reputation, repeat clients where payment was never an issue and new clients. I've heard all the excuses in the book about why payment was not made as agreed upon. Sometimes, I'd eventually receive payment either in partial or full. Other times, the client "disappeared". The clients had no problem accepting and using the text copy I wrote, but when it came time for them to pay, the jerking around began.

To blindly trust people as you suggest, think that a client is going to pay promptly because the writer is good and they accepted the work, and the writer has good credentials here or elsewhere, is foolish.

Depending on the project, I divide the payment into thirds. (X) amount to begin. (X) amount at an agreed upon milestone. (X) amount due upon completion of remaining work. The risk is minimized for both the client and myself. Clients are more agreeable to the terms and the project just goes all the much smoother. I implemented this tactic years ago after learning a few lessons the hard way. It is something other writers and service providers should consider offering. It tends to keep both the writer and client honest and on track.

I am still owed $25 by this moron from Thanksgiving weekend for content he described as "excellent" but then called me all sorts of names to try to deflect from not paying me. He then proceeded to supposedly sell Flows.org for $1600 on DP and then get promptly banned thereafter. I'm still short $25.
