Since this forum update when I click on the "new posts" link I get 44 pages of results, every posts is treated as new, although I have already seen almost all of them. I tried logging out and then back in and it didn't help, what can I do?

Control Panel Threads showing old threads. I noticed I had around 20 or so threads that had been responded to this morning. Only thing is they are all old threads, say several days old as far as the most recent post. One of them was a thread started by me, which has no replies. Is this another V Bulletin bug? Just curious as I am having a hard time getting the threads to clear out.

    Thanx.

Goto menu at top of any page.

Click on Quick Links | Mark Forums Read

I hate this new version! Before, when I clicked on the new posts link it would show the posts that were created or had replies only since the last time I visited the forum, but now they keep popping up, it seems that now it shows all the posts I haven't read, so I need to click on the "mark forums read" all the time.

It's not the version -- something's going wrong at your end.

    Try this:

    1. log out from the forum
    2. close your browser window for DP
    3. delete the digitalpoint cookie
    4. log back in
    5. "mark forums read" again

    That usually fixes the problem.

    Edit: Doh!

Sorry. Misread your post, fryman... see DP's reply below.

Well, the fact that the "New Posts" link can actually give you your unread posts is a good thing.

So much better than making sure you caught everything you wanted to read before you leave the forum for that session. Also, it works across multiple sessions (if you logout and log back in or go to another computer), before it was all screwy. Using the "Mark Forum Read" link when you have to is a small price to pay IMO.

That's what I meant, I really liked the old way, where once you logged off everything was "forgotten" and when you came back only the new posts would show up.

But, I guess I will just have to get used to it :D

I'm not sure if I like it or not, on some boards I can see it being really useful but on a forum as busy as DP I dunno, time will tell I guess.

Isn't it just as easy (actually easier since you don't have to log back in) to mark the forum read as it is to Log Out? :)

Just saw vBulletin added something for beta 2 where the "new posts" list is actually split with a divider that says All threads below here were updated before your last visit.. So it's kind of like a mixture of the new and old. That seems like an ideal setup to me.

I did a 'mark this forum read' run on all forums to clear my 'inbox' of new posts. But yeah, they keep growing now and I did like the old ones to leave the list. On the old system 'new posts' for me never yielded more than 2 or 3 pages which was ideal. Now they grow until I mark them read. And considering there's quite a few forums to mark as read, that's gonna take more time than I was hoping for.

So I hope you can get that combo going! Or I need to get into new habits...

I really mis the old way and am trying my best to adjust. I don't like how when I reply it disappears from the new posts. Or sometimes I read a post, move on, and then want to reply to it a few minutes later...I have a heck of a time finding it again.

I suppose you have to change with the times or be left behind ;)

i think the problem is we browse unconventionally to begin with. I never browse the forum tree structure. I only use the new posts button.

What you mention there, the post you just read/replied to disappearing affects me too.

Would it be possible to permanently mark certain forums read?

    Couple things...

T0PS30 - you can mark the whole forum read at once (link at bottom of main page or under "Quick Links" menu, so you don't have to mark each forum read).

yfs1 - under your profile, you can find all posts by you (sorted newest to oldest).

Another suggestion would be to subscribe to the specific forums you are interested in, and use the "New Posts (Subscribed Forums)" option under "Quick Links".

That kind of works all though its a bit awkward. Its amazing how you get in a routine and it really throws you when things change.

Don't worry Shawn I've already begun to adapt to the new format.

I think once you get used to it (especially when beta 2 shows the split in the new posts lists), you will like it.
