2 separate websites or 2 websites in one?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Ziadm, Mar 25, 2013.

    Hello,

I am planning to make a video blog website regarding a certain niche, and I plan to have 2 versions of the site, one in English and another one is my local language. Is it better to have two separate websites or the 2 websites under one domain name (with a landing page that enables the visitor to choose their language)?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

It's better to have 2 under one domain name, it's a lot simpler that way, better for users.

I agree ... One website with separate directories for different languages. The main website should be the english one as that will more than likely be the most popular one. Then put the translated in a separate folder on your domain yoursite.com/translatedsite

Easier then to concentrate on sending the traffic to the main site and let the search engine spiders find the other pages.

    Cheers

You could use subdomains if they are going to be linked together. If they are going to be branded differently, then it is best to go with 2 different domains.
For example, a lot of people have a website and a blog. The website is www.whatever.com
    The blog would be blog.whatever.com

You can use geolocation so they will find get their own languages website directly base on their IP address.
If you two websites, you might need to do two times SEO in order to monetize both website.
But if real that you have time do marketing both website, it going to double up your profit as

Yeah, you can create one single website serving both the purpose; with the main webpage in English, and then make the translated version in a different folder and make options/check boxes for the users to select which ever language they are comfortable with.
By making a single website instead of two will help you to optimize your site far better.
