$3000 a month - how's it done?

Okay, so I know this is a genreric of a question as there is, but if a person was to try and make $3000 a month, which direction would you point them?

I personally make $50k+ per year, but to be honest, if I were to cut my expenses, $3k per month would be plenty. I'd like to quit my "day job"
(I actuallly work nights, but you get the point...), and $36k of fairly guaranteed income would take care of what I needed in life, the rest is just gravy.

So what do you think, at 12 hours or 16 hours per day, how could a person make $36k per year on the internet?

 

I doubt somebody would reveal their secrets. It is possible though

 

Do you have a 30k in your back pocket to invest? or else start studying online marketing from forums, you might even try reading e-books to fast track (I personally don't like the idea of paid education )

 

I'd point you into the area of your biggest interest. Make a site about it.

Learn, experiment, run with your ideas, repeat.

 

don't bother asking a question like that on DP. I've seen many people just give snarky answers with no real advice. Some are down right hostile.

People here guard their money making ideas very tightly.

Is it really that much of a "secret" to make $36k off the internet? I mean, to be honest, from a J-O-B, $36k per year is not that hard to make. Any semi-educated person can make that as an employee of an established company(at least in the U.S.). So to be honest, the answer is probably "find your own way".

I've gotten a ton of great information from people on this site though, so when asked "why do you ask such question's", my answer is, you never know who is going to say something that blow's your mind. With blogs like Shawn Hogan's, Shoemoney's, Pro Blogger(Darren Rowse), Matt Cutts, or a wide array of amazing resources, you never know where your nest source of education might come from!

I've been on DP for a while now, and I have read MUCH more than I have posted. I've learned a ton about the do's and dont's of IM, and I don't think many people have realized that most of the "answers" are available on this site and on the internet in general.

that's just silly. I provide helpful answers on this board whenever I can. What I'm asking for is not that wild of a question, I know not everyone makes that amount, but with my obligations, that's the bare minimum I can make and get by. (I own a duplex, and am up to my ears in credit card debt.)

It is in the "General Business" section, so expectations of the thread shouldn't be that high to begin with. Imagine if people actually contributed ideas to this thread, it could be amazing. I'm sure it's a better question than "Who's the hottest chick on DP" hahaha.....

That is the big problem man, people are afraid to start things at times, because they are afraid of what people are going to think. Well I can't afford to be afraid of what people are going to think, I'm in a position where I need to start making money or risk everything right now. (which is probably the best damn position a person could ever be in in life, as 50 cent says, "get rich or die tryin' " )

Not really such a big secret, but something I am doing and have been for a while now, might help you out a bit.

I buy websites.
Maybe not daily, but surely several times a week I buy new websites (This week for example, clubsatwar.com, freeiphone4u.com, and ZapMix.com from Digitalpoint alone). Some of them already established some automated wordpress blogs, arcades, the kind of thing that requires no maintinence besides collecting the checks. On top of that I do maintain a few websites that I devote a lot of my time to.


I started off with $48,95 in January 8th, 2005.
$20 for scripts, $20 for hosting, and $8,95 for a domain.
Since then, although its not always been good times, I've learnt an incredible amount, and do enjoy it.

Most of the websites I set up are websites based on some scripts I find for sale. Flash arcade scripts, video site scripts, that kind of thing.
Just jump on the bandwagon and hope to make a buck.
Occasionally one site will stick out and make it big.
Concentrate on that site.

I don't spend a lot per website, but with a large network its not too hard to make a nice bit off them.
I'm not going to elaborate on how to build up such websites for obvious reasons, but hope I was able to help

I for one do my best to help where I can, without giving away something too valuable.
it'd be like asking for my credit card details on the forum.. I wont be stupid enough to give away anything that could hurt me, so why not help him out?

 

exactly... not asking for "secrets" by any means, just general advice and direction. My biggest problem is starting things, so this was part of my "start" .

 

Once you guys have been here a little bit longer you'll see what some of us are talking about regarding the red reps and so on.

I also try to be very helpful but it's not us that are the problem. It's a few of the members that seem to have a chip on their shoulder. It's funny what will set them off. In any case, you can see by the amount of great advice you got to your question. Not many people are willing to give you advice. When they do, they just say very general things that don't really help at all.

Try starting a thread that says you made $3,000 and see how many people show up to brag about their earnings. Good luck getting them to tell you how they did it.

The real answer is what you said. Read a lot and do something you have enough passion for to do on a daily basis. I think a lot of people just get lucky by trying a number of things.

 

I dont think anyone gets mad at the question, there just isn't a cut and dry answer. There are so many different ways to generate revenue on the web the answers are endless and the skilsets needed may take even more time to explain. It's like asking "How long is a length of rope?".

Why dont you start with a response to these, and see if you get a better response:

- What are your current skillsets related to web technologies?
- What level of investment do you have to make?
- What are your current interests?

Very true. It was definitely quite the generic question.. Believe it or not I've learned a couple things from the thread though and thats what counts.. its all about reading between the lines.

1. My current skillset is mostly technical, I can handle installations and configurations of any type. My weaknesses right now are design and reporting(on traffic, income, etc.), obviously two very improtant aspects of this business. I plan on spending a lot of time learning how to craft good reports and micromanage my traffic, but design I likely will continue to be weak in that area, because I'm not a terribly artistic person. (besides writing, I feel I'm a fairly decent writer and I don't have a lot of problem coming up with good content. )

2. I have a few bucks to invest in the right places (adwords, some design, etc.), but I have to be terribly choosy right now where I'm spending my money, because I do have some limitations. (don't we all..)

3. Interests... does making money count as an interest? haha.. In all seriousness, I have very broad interests, including travel (probably my greatest interest), outdoor activities, music, movies ... really I'm interested in most things besides working in a cubicle.

 

Since you are good at installs, why not get a few domains and throw wordpress on them. You could then write about some of your interests. You could even have some technical blogs as the content in those tend to have higher returns.

The best thing is there are a million and one wordpress themes for free so there isn't much of a need for design skills.

As you read through the forums and learn more marketing and SEO you can port that to your blogs until at which time you find a niche and/or site type that you want to develop.
