I liked the blog and I would agree with it. Essentially what it boils down to is if you intend on owning a successful business you have to offer something different or more than your competitors. ebay, youtube, and digg were the first, they were unique websites and are now extremely successful. As you mentioned, clone websites won't be successful unless something is different.

Yes i agree with most of those points made, why would anyone upload a video anywhere else but youtube? Well unless its over 20 mins, or unless its innappropiate then they will, but usually people go towards YouTube, Nice Find.

There's also a new site that's about to come out that may move down one of those top five :]

Sure you can always say your too late but there is never any harm in trying.

What if the Google guys gave up because Yahoo already provides search?

Same goes with Gmail and Hotmail?

You never know when you may hit it big.

P.S. I have made a clone youtube downloader site and though it wasnt the first its still bringing in good profits, you can check it here: http://www.mubinahmed.com

You don't have to aim for 1 billion dollars to be successful.

They all started out early. So they are successful.

I was talking about really big sites like Youtube, Myspace.
Youtube downloaders are not really big businesses.

The points you made our very relevant but there is another aspect to it. I think any site made with adsense/alternatives and not the content of the site in mind will also end up failing. And most of these clones are MFA.

One thing I have noticed over the past 11years on the net, that is people rarely are loyal if another product is better. Google is just way better at getting relevant search results making it useless using other search engines. YouTube is better so people will use it.

Eg: If someone creates a search that is better than Google and say for instance also has no ads, I along with most people would use it instead.

So if you see a successful internet business I'm sure if you made a product that is better you will gain market dominance. Taking factors of monetary costs and labor hours into account as well.

    MFA is "made for adsense"

We just have to follow the net's mantra, "find your niche."
