    I tried adsense today at:

    http://nhlcentral.net/

Not a single click and some ads just aren't relevant.

Can anyone suggest what I should do?

I think NHL is not a good keyword for ads.
If you search for NHL at Google, you will see there's no relevant ads either,
they might be forbidding people from bidding on a tradermarked term.
Having "hockey" in domain or page names could give you some relevant ads.

In addition, I noticed that your site uses session IDs - adsense crawler hates
those, you might want to configure the site not to use them.

Possibly move the ads towards the content more possibly? Put them under the login box. :)

Forums usually result in a VERY low number of clicks.

So i dont usually recommend you to put google ads on forums

you need it on content based website

Forums are hard to convert at first.

You could try a leaderboard instead of the banner.

Also Make the landing page scroll down not as long.
Your ads need more attention from your board.

the ads are not very well placed in my opinion. You don't need to go with "in your face" type of ads but still....

You won't be making jack off a forum but you should try the leaderboard format

ya, nhl/hockey related sites are bad for ads, and forums are even worse, so if you combine the two, you are going to get next to nothing

    Matthew

    ps.
thats cool that you own that website, i visit it all the time :)

Thank you for the help everyone. Sounds like forums are doomed for adsense unless you make it "in your face". I don't want to mess with the layout to make in your face, it's too pretty! I'll change the adsense to a leader board and change the title to google default bold blue to see if this helps.

Just bought it a few days ago. It's very organized, a lot of moderators, graphics artists and contributors. The previous 2 owners are still on board! I'm going to do the backend stuff. First mission is to raise the PR.

Timothy, why do you think this improved the CTR? Having 2 banners side by side like this looks kind of a leaderboard, just not as tall. Does it perform better than a regular leaderboard?

The first thing in my mind is traffic.
Content is the king. Anyway, traffic is the main factor to generate profit from a site. :)

My personal point of view is put banner as side bar.

use competetive filters. and since hockey is mostly enjoyed by canadians, target for canadian ads. but with forums, its harder to get clicks as ppl just read, write, etc in forums and boards.
