800 Visits and no clicks?

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by StrangeLife, Jul 15, 2006.

    Hello
I recently launched my new site:
    www.lifeofstrange.com

I had over 800 unique visitors yesterday and not one click. I am willing to experience different ad placements but there is a limit with my site.

Please take a look at life of strange, you notice the ads on the main page and in the posts.

Can anyone suggest anything to increase my clicks. Visitors isn't a problem.
I think because some of my content is photoshop tutorials, these are viewed from webmasters so they obviously know about ads.

    Cheers

Try adding some ad units. All I see is a link unit.

    Check out this thread:
    Critters and Adsense

The ads that you have on your site really don't get as many clicks. Those are kind of like keyword categories and not ads. When someone clicks one of those keywords it takes them to a page with a bunch of different ads. That's probably not what they were looking for so they leave the page and you lose the click.

how about adding a Button (125x125) beside your images in the post and see if that helps. did you design the template, it looks really good.

Yeah, you've got it set up so that they land on a page with more choices to make. It's sort of like those parking hosts that offer a 2-click set up. I'd say try to make it as easy as possible for people to click through.

And I don't understand your comment about webmasters knowing about ads. I click ads sometimes if they interest me, don't you? Occasionally I'll buy something after clicking an Adsense box.

Cool games, I bet you get a lot of repeat visitors.

    What's your traffic strategy?

    Hey
Thanks for the quick replys, i think i will get rid of the link units in the posts and maybe add a button (125x125)... and check out the results from that.. i'm also tempting to add some images next to the text ads, i like that idea from that "critters and adsense" thread.

    "chachacallis"
Yep i designed the whole theme...1st in photoshop then into css and using wordpress. Oh also you might want to check out the drawing at the bottom right hand corner of the theme...thats me with a bong lol, bit of fun :p

I take it you can intergrate ads with css right?
    PS: thanks for the feedback!

It's a game site. Conversion is lousy. Just ask anyone with a similar site. Game sites, video sites -- these are probably two of the lousiest niche to get into. No one goes to click ads unless you trick them. They go to play, then leave. Don't be surprise at your low earnings. It's just the reality of your niche. Once you've built up your traffic, apply to a CPM ad network to take advantage of the impressions.

In fact, games sites conversion is crappy, but your style there is great. Simple site with much to get into.
Try some nice blending os ads there and maybe you can get 2%...

"jackburton2006" just to let you know its not all a game site..i will be including another interesting i will find...from wordpress to adsense for example.

    "pjk"
I will take that idea in hand another day, simply cause i dont have time now  i like that idea.
I have quickly changed from link units to text ads.. check them out, i'm also thinking about having the texts ads under the image.. example:

    Thanks "shenron" :)

an update on my placement ads...i considered "pjk" idea and intergrated into my single posts pages:

    Example:
    http://www.lifeofstrange.com/photoshop-tutorials/stylish-drop-shadow/

I still have the link unit on the homepage, i'm gonna leave that there to see future results.

Wots quite annoying two ads show up in the posts instead of four, but i can live with that

A question.. I disabled the "Advertise on this site" through the adsense settings but it still shows up? questions like this probably turns up alot on DP..sorry.
