Hello you all. I am thinking of starting an e-store on selling customized t-shirts (In Italy). The business is quite easy because I am already selling these in my shop, done from a local provider. I am a little doubtful because I am not too sure if it is worth it & want to base my decission basically on a profitability analysis. I have been checking other web pages similar to what I want to do & have seen that they have about 400 visits per day. If I can get this same number of visits (let's assume I can), the business would make sense if about 0,5% of these people buy from my site. This number seems very reasonable to me but I have no experience in e-commerce. For this reason I would kindly ask, for anybody who can help, what are "typical" conversion ratios in internet, for a business similar to mine & if this 0,5% conversion ratio seems "easily achievable". If you have info about any web page which can help me in this, I would also highly appreciate it. Regarding the content of the site, I would assume that my site would be a good site, but probably as good as others. THank you for your help in this matter.

0.5% should not be difficult to achieve if the traffic is targetted and the product is not too bad.

Depending on how you decide to market your website, it could be very profitable or it could not be. Since you already have a retail location, you can market through your store. If you can, post your website address on sales receipts, business cards, gift bags, boxes, and anything else that your customer may end up with. Also, if your t-shirts are related to a certain area/location, or Italy itself, you can market to people in those specific areas. Advertise on local search engines, city websites, and other localized markets could be a very effective method of advertising your website.
