    First off, you have a lot of content on that site. (Is it original?)

    If I just clicked on the site quickly and glanced at it, I would have thought it was a site with nothing but adsense. If I hadn't scrolled down I would have missed all the good stuff.

    Bring the content to the center of the site so visitors WANT to be there. Then stick your content at the top, middle, and bottom of each article.

    Yes, the site look like a site of adsense. :) i think you should place some adsense at the top and some adsense at the bottom. midddle will contain only your own content.

    I think that the ads would be more effective if they were in the middle of text with the same colour as text

    The placement is bad, I suggest you improve it by blending the colours.

    Excuse me? I think the placement is the only problem as it stands out.
    Every site should never make ads conspicuous but should blend it in with the site.
