Ok, my guess is the guy just wants someone to mod PHPLD to give him all the features you have on your site. I hope that is the case and he just chose poor wording in that post with "I need an EXACT copy of..." If he doesn't copy your category structure and have the same listings as you, there should't' be any kind of duplication penalty from the search engines.

By the way, you could respond to the guy and see what his intentions are. You might even offer to make a template for him and make some cash. And you could insure his site differs from yours a bit.

And to think of your suggestion, PortProphecy. All he had to do was PM me and ask if i could make him a similar site. Just goes to show you how people are nothing but conniving f'heads.

    Oh well.

Yea, I thought this was some random guy out there in cyberspace, not someone who was a DP member and could have just asked for your help. Oh well. I guess all you can do is keep and eye on that site of his and see what he eventually does with it.

    Pathetic, right!

Well, I've posted about it in his new thread about his directory, so maybe people will read, maybe some people wont. Regardless, they should know what type of person they are dealign with.

He went about it the wrong way, and DP members should take note of it, and make an example of the wannabe plagiarizing retard.

What's funny is not only has he publicly asked if someone could copy your site for him, but check out his site now: www.WebndEx.com . Looks like he attempted to capture the look and feel of www.bigvertiser.com and failed miserably. Looks like HTML, CSS, and PHP aren't his forte.

Finally! I am here to speak for myself. I appologise that I couldnt make it sooner. First off, I would like to say that I did not intend to copy your website on the notion that I was going to advertise on digitalpoint. Second, I noticed that your website was voted highly on the php directory website. I was trying to find webmasters who could resemble a few features... Whats out there now is something to get it started. Everyone in the database will benifit from the updates... Thirdly, I see nothing on that website that resembles your website at all so dont get roudy with my unless I have done something wrong... Do me a favor and put my website as your home page so you can keep and eye on it. ;)

    Welcome werewe12,

Like what UFC referee Big John McCarthy would say, “lets get it on".

But on a more serious note I use to get all stressed out when others copied my work. Then it would dawn on me that it was really a form of flattery. And then I would take that negative energy and focus it in a more positive stream of thought. Imitation is a fact of life in the business world. There are ways to protect yourself such as the use of patents, trademarks, NDA, NCA, and so on. But ideas can not be protected.

When your work is being copied, imitated, or cloned it is up to the originator to become innovative and improve upon their design. Get those creative juices flowing in a positive way instead of involving into the negative.

Note: I am not taking sides in this issues but rather I am sharing my perceptions that have helped me when in a similar situation.

Think about this: What if Yahoo was the only website that could use a directory format?

F.Y.I. and terribly sorry to burst your 'innovative theory' but my site *IS* innovative, and there is no phpld out there similar to it. none.

And yes, I can take things in a 'flattering' manner, but not when I come across the links I provided, and they are asking for 'EXACT DUPLICATES', and offering to pay for it.

If he wanted a site like mine, then why didn't he come to me 'directly'?

i mean for christ's sake, if says my damn name on the page he 'claims' he saw it on.

    EXACT excerpt from http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/articlescript/Site_of_the_Month_April_2006.php
So in closing, you're flawed, you're post is flawed, and maybe common sense will grab ahold of you sometime tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Round 2:

I am sure that in your own reality you truly believe what you have designed is what you refer to as "Innovative", but you don't have to convince me nor the members of this forum of that. But rather who you need to convince is the US Patent & Trademark Office. Once you convince them that your idea is innovative then you will have the legal muscle to protect it.

Right now as it is you don't have a legal leg to stand on.

How is that for some common sense?

Listen bubs(anon)... If I was to copy your site then you would see it copied. You are just being a little stuck up in thinking you have the best directory out there or something. The only thing that struck me about your directory was the way you did the adsense. You have a problem with me displaying my adsense like you did? Let me know because I dont really care. Your display of Adsense only benefits you. It is not like you are doing something good for anyone viewing your website. Trust me. My directory will have many more features than you even understand. Features that are friendly to users of the directory.

How is it that something as simple as the topic on hand, is so hard for you to comprehend?

    Show me:

    1. a phpld with my design
    2. a phpld weather mod that displays weather based on zip
    3. a phpld that provides 'topic specific' news on a 'per' category basis
    4. a phpld that has deep linking capabilities
    5. a phpld that does not allow you to submit to top level categories
    6. a phpld that shows last visited 'category name' and not full path to category
    7. a phpls that has a dynamically change anchor
    8. a phpld ....

are you not seeing a trend here and what the topic is about?
    hint* - it's called phpld.

are you seriously that incapable of staying focused and understanding topical conversation?
see prior post to understand topic. (please put on thinking cap prior to re-reading. thanks)

Nobody is trying to persue legal action. So giving mention to/about this.... umm why? 0_o

    What *IS* going on here:
I am letting everyone know what type of person werewe12 is. No need to reiterate since you've read the thread thoroughly, right?

I'll bet you're one of those self-proclaimed internet lawyer types who thinks their college degree makes them something special.

Your kind of people always crack me up best.

so tell me, *where is your* common sense, reading comprehension and focus tonight?

Hey retard, read the *FIRST link in this thread*.
THAT is my problem. Are you 3rd world fucking dumb or what?

also, regarding 'features'; 'I WRITE MY OWN', 'I THINK OF MY OWN'.
    You can't even:

    1. think of your own design (you COPIED bigvertiser.com)
    2. place something as simple as adsense on a website
    3. think of your 'OWN FEATURES'
    4. i'm not gonna keep going...

so how in the hell are you going to be this 'feature rich' site, when you haven't the slightest clue about anything to begin with. hahaha you, idiot.

You're nothing but a worthless, plagiarizing douche who can't think for himself.

btw, I'm far from 'stuck-up', however, if you were obviously willing to pay someone to DUPLICATE my directory, so there must be something about my directory thats worth being stuck up about.

    idiot.

What i find remarkably hilarious about this is the "Maximum" price he is offering. $40 for a "Clone" of Anon's directory.

I deal with phpLD every single day. I do custom directories for 10 people a week, and let me tell you this. ANYONE willing to do a project like AWL for $40 is surely doing it for only two reasons, Pitty, or something great to add to their portfolio. I would not touch it for 5x that much!

Now, I recommend you do this. Take your $40 and invest it wisely. Find an online html/php/Smarty class someplace, and learn how to make some of thos simple modifications that you need done. BTW, I would gladly change your header for $15. It takes only 2 minutes to do it, and I would be in and out.

werewe12 - it's fair to say you're trying to fight your way out of a paper bag and losing.

You clearly stated you wanted an EXACT copy of an0n's directory. It would be wise to admit it and move on, instead, you want to put up a fight and keep defending what you so blantantly attempted to do. Anyone can see that you're lying and I guess 142857 is your buddy!

    mmmmm yum...wet soggy paper bag....

To tell you the truth I dont really give a shiva. You think I dont know how to manipulate one line of html to switch a header? Are you kidding me? I dont spend all my time working with codes and html. I find it better to have others do it for me. That way I can

    1.meet new coders
2.sit back and watch the progress roll...

    on another subject:

    Im not lying

After I posted that in scriptlance I found ANON in this forum and congratulated him on a nice website. I then cancelled that project from scriptlance. I did however meet a few nice coders that are willing to do work like this for me. Also, having a complete website made for me by one person is not my style... You have to tell them specifically what you want or else you wont get what you want.

As you can see my profile on scriptlance I have 12 feedbacks. If you go through and read the previous jobs none of them have been for complete websites. I post alot of things and cancel alot of them. Get it through your heads. I am roaming the field. There is nothing wrong with that!

Anyone that objects is an internet NAZI!
