ad blindness

I brought this up before in a thread but i was thinking about it again after reading some posts.

I see so many people saying they don't click google ads.
is it because you're not wanting to contribute to that persons earnings on google since you know they are getting some amount of money if you click?
or is it just that you don't see them?
and if you do see them and it interests you do you type the url in from what is shown, hightlight it and type in the url that shows, or do you simply click it?

I agree when i see google ads I think to myself, why should i give this person money because it interests me, but thats how it works. If you see something you want to check out, you click it.

Personally, I have no problem clicking on an ad that I find interesting. If I am looking for something and an ad piques my interest, I will click on it and not worry about whether the site owner will benefit from the click.

I have found some interesting sites with loads of information and products that I would not have found if I had not clicked on an ad.

I made it a habit to NOT click on any adsense, because I don't want to accidentally do it on my own sites.

I don't mind viewing text/image ads or adsense ads. For the most part, they are not intrusive and many times I find interesting sites this way. I just can't stand any kind of flashing or pop up ads.

However, since I am trying to make some money with adsense myself and wouldn't want my visitors blocking my ads, I wouldn't want to block others ads. I suppose I am weird that way. :)

Shoemoney, man, I have to say - this is the first thing I have ever heard you say that has dissapointed me.:(

If a website contains ads, well, I figure that for me to have to see the ads is only fair, as it has taken the webmaster a certain amount of work to place the information I am seeking on his page. In return, if he want to show me an ad or two, so that perhaps he has a chance to be reimbursed for his time and effort, well, that seems to me to be the only fair thing to do.

Alot of content wouldn't be available on the web if it wasn't for advertising revenues that support alot of smaller sites. By blocking the ads at these sites, you don't even give them a chance to make back some of the money spent to bring it to you. It seems dishonest - you are stealing their content in a way.

i don't like the plugin that blocks all ads. i heard theres 1 that blocks the ads on your site so you don't accidently click your ads or add fake impressions by viewing it while you test it or whatever

Sometime ads could be helpful to you :)
It depends on visitor to visitor.
Ad blindness mostly occur on forums and blogs not on other websites.

I'm not saying that you intentionally try to click ads to support the site. But if an ad has something you are interested in , and want to see, why shouldn't you click it?

Taking someone's content while leaving their only means of reimbursement is close to theft in my books.

I have to agree with this. Advertising is what runs most of the websites currently available online. If you remove advertising from the equation I'm sure that most content sites will have to close their doors or start charging their readers to access the content.

What's the point of having ads when they are being blocked? It's only fair to allow the webmaster the oppotunity to display ads in return for you getting their content for free. This doesn't mean you should go on a clicking spree on ads or anything... just that you allow that webmaster the possibility to show you an ad that might be of interest.
