Dont know why but i added my site to Google Sitemaps, i generated a sitemap, uploaded the .xml file and since that, traffic has slowed a 70%...

    Is that possible?

There's no coincidence between those two facts.

But I think there's no need to submit your sitemap to Google, you generally won't get any noticeable results.

Just make sure you have a good website structure and you'll be fine.

Did you check out, whether your submitted sitemap format was supported by google or no ?

Check out the google sitemap supported formats and it might help !!

Sitemaps don't affect rankings, only helps Google find url's that it normally wouldn't crawl that deep for. This is especially helpful for forums and otherwise very large dynamic sites. Theirs no correlation between the two. I recently added a sitemap to a forum and within two weeks Google referrals increased 10x and the indexed pages went from 700 to 50,000.

ive noticed with the last update that sitemaps are just a way for google to index more content and have more results in their search...pushing your sites down in the chain...

APPLY75 is absolutely right!!!!! There is no need for us to submit sitemaps and no matter what a lot of people, mostly Google fans for some reason, sitemaps are NOT good for you and your site!
Maybe in some odd examples people get a better ranking but for the most part your site is better served without sitemaps!!
I have removed all my sitemaps after submitting them and almost not being in the SERP's anymore, and you know what???? Stadily climbing in the SERP's after the dive rom submitting th sitemaps!! My worst move ever submitting sitemaps and telling Google about them!

Um, no. It's just coincidence. Google doesn't punish people for going through the effort of submitting them sitemaps. You would have to think the sun revolves around the Earth to believe that this even makes any sense.

Sitemaps doesn't effects negatively your traffic. It helps you to get indexed by google faster. Maybe your host gets bandwidth problems.

Google Sitemaps lets Google look at your site a bit more. If you don't want Google to look at your sites, then of course don't do it :).

And of course if you install and test Google Sitemaps at the same time as BigDaddy goes around, then it must be Google Sitemaps that influenced your rankings. Yeah, sure :D :D

Theres more to it than you think.

When you submit your sitemap it like it unindexes your site and reindexes thus losing all your top ranking positions.

Sure here is my keyword rankings before I submitted my sitemaps, note* these are keywords from articles I wrote.

and now after I submitted my sitemap some of my rankings are on the 9th and 10th pages or some don't rank at all anymore.

My word of advice if you are in G already, don't submit a sitemap. I averaged 20 google search hits a day now I get 0!

Hmm, Interesting all around. Seems like some say it hurts, and others say it helps, while the rest say it doesn't do anything.

I guess only time will tell :)
