I am currently compiling a list of procedures on how to add google ads for those who are using a phpBB forum. I am not yet done but I have already started with the simple ones. Advanced procedures will follow and also a full integration wherein google ads are being configured in the admin control panel.

For the list of procedures, you can check here:

Wow - I have to say that is some of the best integration of Adsense into a forum I have ever seen. It deadset fooled me the way you have integrated the 230 x 60 banner into the forums on the index page, and in the threads within each forum - I'm very impressed. I would have loved these integration techniques for my phpBB forums, but I'm in the process of upgrading all my forums to vBulletin... Even the way you have the link text colout different from the rest of the links on your page actually I think would draw more attention and induce more clicks than if you had tried to blend it.

    Once again, very impressive!

Thank you for sharing, and it is the best intergration I ever see, but..

I think you should be careful on replacing the ad under label other than "sponsored link" or "advertisement" because from what I saw, some ad is under "Message" or "Author" or "Topic" label, which I think is against the TOS.

Thanks for both good words and warning.

For the warning, I have already sent an e-mail to google asking if it is allowed or not. As of now, I am thinking of adding the phrase "Advertisement" just above each google ads.

I am only waiting for the response from google about this

Congradulations, your definitely on your way to making a few dollars with that integrations I think. No more low CTR forums with those sort of placements.

Some statistics for those following this:

There are more clicks at the topic list view wherein the ads are displayed together with the other topics.

Next is in the index page wherein the ads are displayed together with the forum categories

There was almost no clicks on ads displayed at the topic view (where you read the post messages)

Maybe if you blended the link on the index page's ads instead of having it orange it might work a little better. As for the actual in topic CTR maybe making that banner only a 230x60 banner so it doesn't look like a banner ratehr just one link, if you know what I mean or alternatively a 250x250 box might work better.

Actually, the links are randomized between 2 colors: orange and blue. Blue is the normal color of the links in the forum and orange is the color when there are new messages posted but of course they only work for logged in users.

With that, I think I will add a code to randomize the color only if the user is logged in :D

Regarding the topic view, the ads there are actually being randomized into different format. Also, the location is being randomized. You can check it by reloading a page with multiple posts.

    Thanks for the comments ;)

And these methods were all cleared by Google to be in accordance with their TOS?

I know your not allowed to tell me what the CTRs are for them, but if I had to guess I'd be guessing that it's better than the standard less than (0.5% - 2%) on normal forums, am I right?
