Ads on entertainment sites - smiles, cursors, SS

    Hi.

I know that this isn't the best forum for this, but it is part of question also.

On many entertainment sites with videos, pictures, games, funny things, ... there are picture ads about getting free smiles, cursors, screensavers, only crap.

    Why?

Is this well paid or is something other in back of these ads?

Can someone explain this to me please, why to have those stupid ads instead of any other normal pic-ads or contextual ads.

    Have a nice day.

Those ads seem to be paying decent CPM (through networks like ValueClick), since it's CPM rather than CPC the webmaster is getting paid whether or not visitors are actually clicking them. So it's an advantage over text ads which may not be getting clicks on these entertainment sites.

Yes, I get it that this may be CPM not CPC, but this is not so important here

There is something also. How can thos advertisers, who advertise free SS, smiles with no revenue advertise for big money. There must bi kind of scam. I thing so.

Anyone alse have something to tell about that. Feel free and thanks.

Of course they are getting plenty of revenue from their 'free' sites - very often they seduce/trick visitors into installing spyware or adware. For example smiley sites often install software that inserts advertisements with every email you send. Similar spyware/adware problems occur when installing 'free' screensavers, cursors, etc.

Yes, so you confirm my theory what is this about. There can't be just free things, there must be like u said trick to get unwanted software.

BTW, do you have any experince with those ads on your pages? What is approx. CPM in general?

    Thx you very much.

I don't personally use those ads, but I see them available on one of the major ad networks. A lot of those smilie/screensaver ads are only priced around $0.05-$0.10 CPM, but some are up to $0.50-$0.80 CPM, and popunders get much more - around $0.80-$4.50!!
