Adsense Placement Insanity

Hi,

I know you can have up to three regular adsense ads on each page, but is putting an ad in the top left of your content and putting a 120x600 nav bar ad at the top of your actual left hand nav bar, a good idea, or is it overkill/stupid ?

I just started this today at my site at http://www.skin-care-reviews.com and my amount per click has gone down and not many are clicking on it (I have it tracked in Channels). Is this placement in the left nav bar crazy - maybe a 4 level link unit would be better, or something else - not that it will look that good ?

I have tried adding more ads lower in content before and it never worked well, so I'm hesitant at doing that.

Funny, it seems confusing that they let you put up to three ads on a pge and a link unit and a search unit, but I thought your value per click goes down the more ads are on your page ?

For those of you doing well on Adsense, is there a safe way to get more clicks, or better places to place ads ?
