Advice needed for ecom store-make it the main thing or a section of link directory?

    Hi
    Say I want to start an ecommerce store selling widgets and also have an existing widgets link directory.
    Is it better to make
    1) get a new domain www.widgets.com and make the ecom store the primary theme (on main page) and link externally to the link directory OR
    2) put the ecom store as the secondary section of my existing widget link directory (i.e. ecom store will be under www.widgetsdirectory.com/store/ )

    Would appreciate any comments on how best to copulate (pardon the language) the store and link directory so that I can be a millionaire in no time, haha.
