Advice on buying a printer

I want to buy an printer to print better quality letters that i am now able to do.

I have a Dell Photo AIO Printer 922 and i have to say the quality is quite poor regarding the print outs.

The lettering is not consistent in it's appearence. And i think it's just bad compared to the kind of automated letters that come through the mail from other companies i recieve mail from.

If i want to have better quality in print out for letters with letterheads with logos and such what would you guys reconmend?

I am really not that experienced when it comes down to buying printers so i would have no idea where to start.

Are laser printers more accurate in print out and do they produce more quality in appearence?

If you're looking for a specialized photo printer that is easy to carry around and can offer instant gratification, you may try Epson PictureMate.

I am using a HP Deskjet 6840, results are good. Its a Inkjet Photo printer.

I have always used HP, i bought Epson once, their printing quality is better than HP, but they are really slow, make lot of noise and require high maintanace. But this experience was long ago, i dont know how Epson printers are performing now.

But, i am not sure if you could carry it around. :)

I have 6 of these six colour printers - The R200 is the same exact printer without the LCD

Dell printers are basically Lexmarks and are ink hogs.

    Thanks guys for your comments.

Yfs1... that looks very nice, i really have no clue about printer resolution but is the printer resolution of the one you posted of high quality when you print regular pages with info on it such as text and letter heads/logos?

The one i currently have gives really poor quality.

BTW 6 of those  do you have a printing shop on the side or what? :D

Its a production machine for me so yes, the quality is quite high.

4 of them print nonstop for one product and the other 2 do things like letterhead and promotions.

    I buy 3rd party ink at around 500 cartridges a time ;)

A laser printer will offer the best quality for the best value hands down.

Inkjets are ink pigs. You may get the printer for 50$, but then your are addicted to buying ink.

Plus some inks are water soluable. They just are not for professional use.

Get a laser and don't look back. They are cheap.

Lexmark, Brother and HP are good names to start with.

I'm talking black print here to do business.

But do laser printers give the same quality as letters you get from companies such as assurance or healtcare?
Those always look nice and way better then i can achieve as of now with that shitty dell printer.

No ink? I don't understand...how do they put the content on the paper?

I would also suggest investing in a Laser if you can...I have specific needs for types of printing a laser can't do so my suggestion is only if you are in the market for an ink jet rather then a laser.

    Good point though Noppid

So a laser printer would be better regarding quality and preventing ink costs?

Laser prineters are deifenetly cost effective and they are pretty fast when comapred to inkjets.

Here's an example from a customer I service computers for.

I went to office depot to pick up some multiline phones for them to install and set up. They asked me to grab some ink. I did.

I spent $80.00 on ink. I thought that was outragous! All their business is done in black and white. They were using color ink for bullshit mostly cause they had it. They do however print pics sometimes and need color. They were pleased that they got 4 printers and they were only about 50$ a pieces.

Anyway long story short. Small business spending over $200.00 per month on inkjet ink went too...

A full collating laser copier with two side coping. It's networks and accessable from all computer. It costs 180.00$ per month plus paper only to run.

I buy toner for my $250 brother laser all in one about once every 2 years at 30$.

If you need color news letters, consider a printing service. Some things are not cheaper at home.

Color lasers are expensive. A basic color laser printer would start from somewhere wround $400, while you can have a good inkjet photo printer @ $150-200.

If you require color printing, go for inkjet that yfs recommended.

No doubt, for color, inkjets can be the way to go.

Have you considered the economics of preprinted stationary with your color logo as such?

Reprinting your logo over and over on an inkjet could be more expensive. Asuming that's what your color is.
