Affiliating - How??

This question is for those who are using affiliate programs - how do you market your webpage with affiliate links?

I joined few affiliate programs - I figured if I just placed a banner on my page - it might propel users to click but might not turn into actual sale. I am trying to create some type of material on the page with the banner offering a bit more info then just a banner - increasing the user curiousity as well as the probability of converting the click to actual sale.

What do you guys think??? Any advice, suggestions for me as to how to enhance and increase my affiliate model?

    Thanks

If you want to make money with affiliate programs you should go by your second idea. Placing a baner and hoping people will click and buy is not a proactive way.

I recommand you make a review or place more information on the product/service you are affilaite for.

You also need to look at where are you sending those visitors. If you are affiliate for a company that can not convert visitors into sales you might get disappointed

    Opt-in is a must

If you are selling something on your website, chances are that less than 5 percent of your site’s visitors will ever buy your product. Conversion rates vary with each industry, but the typical healthy rate for online stores is 0.5 percent (.005) to 1.5 percent (.015), according to the Bock Newsletter on Yahoo!

What happens to the 95 percent of your web visitors who came and went?

For most websites, nothing. Those prospects are gone for good, never to return. That’s why it is absolutely essential for your website to have an opt-in mechanism.

The odds are low that people will buy from you the first time they visit your website. After all, they don’t even know you. Rather than lose them, ask for something that is easier and less intimidating than pulling out a credit card, ask them to give you their e-mail address. It’s a simple, nonthreatening way to initiate a relationship.
