    I've seen several sites that always have four ads in their adsense displays. They are using the big banner adsense ad. There are never three or two or one. Does anyone know how they pull this off?

    If there is enough advertisers for your site / page, ad block will be full of ads.

    I think google experiments with ad layouts aswell, 3 ad's 4 ad's etc

    for the 728ad...i've seen sites where it seems only 3 always show up. i thought the standard was 4? (their site design was made to show only 3).

    Yes, I have also seen ad blocks that are always full. For example, on really big sites, there are always the full quota of ads for each block.
