Amazing....1

1. Because of the short (2300m) runway at Princess Juliana International Airport (St. Maarten), large planes fly right over the tourists' head on Maho Beach. It's a spectacular sight—from the ground.



2. Matekane Air Strip in Lesotho (Africa). 400m, and then nothing.

3. This is Glaucus atlanticus, a sea slug found in tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. This photograph makes the rounds on Facebook every few months simply because it's so strangely beautiful.

However, no one ever mentions that this sea slug (like other sea slugs) is a total badass. Why, you ask? It eats incredibly venomous animals like the Portuguese Man o' War. The sting is agonizingly painful to a human and to most animals, but poses no problem to Glaucus atlanticus, which is immune. After the sea slug has consumed the Portuguese Man o' War it "selects" the most venomous cells for its own use. The slug then incorporates these cells into its own tissues, and uses them as a defense mechanism. It also concentrates the venom, making it far more venomous than the animal it "stole" the cells from.


4. In the 1760’s, pitching a ball through the air was considered normal, thus the bat shape changed from a curve to a straight one.


5. Drop a penny in water and see what happens. It sinks, of course. That's why we have wishing wells and fountains in malls and courtyards. However, drop a 1 yen coin, composed of aluminum, in water, and it will float.

 

I'd assume when taking off and landing at the Matekane Air Strip you are provided with spare underwear?
