Survivor 963 should be right around the corner too :D

If you're an idol fan, I'm not, a DP member has a great site with a discussion board for the American Idol Fans community.

True, it's getting samo. And all the clone stuff - we get "The X Factor" over here too :(

But it's not just that, it's the fact that it's all shallow pop music and all about looking "cool", pulling the moves and, yeah OK, maybe a good voice. The main thing is they have to be popular and be marketable, in a word - Product!

Where's the musicians, the people who write their own great songs and don't care about their looks 'cos their music's just genuinely great? That's reallity. Anything Idol is just promoting fake. Grrr

    :)

Thanks for the shout out Rob. My wife and daughter are BIG idol fans.... I even took them to the concert last year. Myself... I don't mind watching it and I like the contest. I got hooked a few years back when I hung out with a few of the contestants in LA.

No problem Stuart; it easy to plug a great site and a pleasure to help out a fellow DP'er.

My wife is a huge fan too. Luckily my daughter's aren't in to it ... yet.

Just watched it tonight. This is the funny part - but it can be quite scary, some people either are trying really hard to be freaky or they are clueless that they are. Some of the girls were down right nasty, mean, etc... and you know that's not what they are looking for. It is about creating a sellable product out of 2 or 3 of them.

What is with the skinny blondes with the fake tans, dark makeup and acting so ditzy???? I thought the same girl got on twice but my wife said the second one had shorter hair. One actually had some singing talent but was just to strange to look at with the fake-n-bake tan and alll.

If Simon Cowell is one of the judges its worth watching just to see him hammer down on people. He has to be one of the most brutally honest people on the planet... Which I like, no walking down the garden path just straight at the throught.

He shatters dreams, and some dreams need to be shattered. Sometimes he's wrong though and too harsh.

True, Mr Cowell is refreshingly honest and, yes, ocasionally wrong but when you get a glimpse of "The X Factor" and the best the other judges can say is "you were great just great" without substantial backup to their claims you have to ask if you want your own kids to grow up in a world with such vapid rationale?

Yeah, and one thing I have to say is: when you want to be a star, you need to be able to handle criticism. But still ... sometimes he's just mean

LOL "You've got to be cruel to be kind" right? ;)

The good thing to come out of this Idol/Pop business is that if SO MANY kids wanna grow up to be pop stars then all the good jobs get left to the rest of us...

    ...but wait...

...thinking ahead, that means when I'm old and wrinkly, sitting in my nursing/ retirment/ mental home there'll only be cheesy pop to listen to.. !!!

I forgot what it was, but at the first American Idol a few years ago, he tore this one girl apart and she couldn't stop crying. I felt bad. But all in all ... yeah, he's pretty good :)
