The other side of it is how cool it could be. If having an integrated XBox only added $30 or $40 to the price, I would probably go for it.

The money is in games, so I'm sure Bill would take a big loss in order to convert all of us PS people.

I think it goes to show. If MS wants to own a market, it will. Video Games, Search, whatever it wants. It has the resources to go and get it.

It is a genious move as you noted YFS. Gates was smart enough to get just about every PC made to run Windows. As you said, the money is in the software, so why not give away the player, when they probably cost MS $10 to put in a TV. The TV manufacturer gets to sell a better product with more features at no cost to them, and MS gets to have their player pre-installed on millions of televisions. Genious.

That blue ray disk dvd thing is supposed to be really cool.

I heard about it being in the pipeline a few years back and its supposed to hold 10 or 15 times more information than a DVD and is half the size. Don't know how true this.

There are two "blue light" technologies that should make it to the US markets in the next year or two. One by Sony and another by a consotium of DVD drive manufacturers. They are all based on layers. Sony's setup adds like twice the layers the other technology does, but it much more expensive...last I read. I believe they are already testing these units in Japan. It is going to be pretty crazy when you can have 30GB of data on one disk.

add-ons can be nice, but now needed for many users. I have a very special gift of not being able to play video games with any talent. Yes, I was the kid that couldn't beat Contra, even with the cheat code.

I am not always a fan of integrated components either. Never fails that something breaks or needs an upgrade. You are either forced to upgrade the entired system, or live this the broken down part.

Thats the beauty of it though. If Bill gets his way the integration will be free to the consumer so if it breaks, who cares?

He will probably send you a new one.

True that. I had no issue putting a $2K stereo in my boat, but bitched at that the DVD player I just bought was $40.

LOL. But, as I am sure you explained to your wife/girlfriend/mother....you need that stereo. Plus, Muskie fishing can get boring. :)

Natron answers to 2 things: God and money, and I think god stopped picking up. Good thing fishing isn't my thing, between the loud exhaust and the stereo I dont think I would snag much.

Ahhh, I see. I did not see many boats like that when I was in WI last for Muskie season. Most were smaller trailer boats on the highway or in people's driveways. There is a bit of water up in those parts. :)
