Since Google introduced their limited click area last year I've seen my CTR fall by half and my CPC drop by about the same amount. My site is:

    http://whatjapanthinks.com

I used to have a sidebar ad too, but that got almost zero clicks. About half my visitors are from Google, and about three-quarters are first-timers.

Keep in mind that the wide skyscraper, rectangle and large rectangle are the MOST PERFORMING ads. Make use of them. Place a skyscraper in your left section (below about me).

Then it depends how much ad exposure you want on your website. If you want to increase your earnings by at least 20% you would place a (large) rectangle inside your first post. Ads INSIDE content perform best. Right now you have a 468x60 (default ad size) above your post. What you would do is place a rectangle and WRAP the text around your ad unit. I don't know how it would look like as you have an image inside every post. Try it out.

And have you tried centering the link unit? I imagine it would perform better for your design + it looks nicer.
