I'm looking for a CMS that will let me create custom columns and edit those fields from the web. such an example is here: best-web-directories.com/free-directories.htm -- and I want to be able to control the theme too. anyone know of a CMS that will let me do this easily?

You can try Drupal, it can create categories and sub categories. And yeah, with configurable themes. And very SEO also (with auto path plugin)

mkportal.it is one I really like when it comes to adding custom pages, colums etc. but it does require a forum to be in place before it'll work.

You can create cutom html or php pages as well as custom html or php blocks for the colums. Don't have it running anywhere at the moment, but I do like to set it up to play around with.

Actually, drupal would work perfect for what you're trying to accomplish. It may not seem like it, but after giving it some time you would see how it could easily be done.

this is my last pro-drupal post for the night, promise
